I got a letter as well saying my account will be deleted and had the 844.253.3707 Number. I was like this gotta be a scam. No way in hell this is real. I ignored it. Then I got phone calls about the issue. I searched the web and got conflicting answers. I called the BOA Customer service line which is present at the back side of my card. I asked the operator “has BOA sent me any letters regarding this issue“. The operator said they have sent the letter twice and the first time it got ignored. ScammerS probably just copies word by word the real letter and hope you don't call this number and Also hope you just sent the information to the wrong address provided.

My husband received the letter while in the hospital. I set aside the letter as it didn't pass my "smell" test. He has a BOA account, so why wouldn't BOA know his income? Again, #/address not same as where you call on the back of your card, or where you send in snail mail payments. Thank your for sharing your experiences. Hopefully we will stop others from giving out personal information. People should also consider freezing their credit.

I received a letter saying it was from B of A regarding my account and wanting personal info on my wife. It was clearly a scam. Some of the things I noticed that pointed me in that direction were as follows. 1) There was no specific info in the letter about my account - not even the type of account they were referring to (ie: checking, credit card, mortgage, car loan, personal loan, etc). 2) The return address on the envelope to return the answer to the info they requested, had a different address than the letterhead. 3) The return envelope was not postage paid. 4) The phone number does not match the number on the back of my card. 5) The was no sender signature or department name on the letter. These were just a few of the flags that struck me as phony.

Turns out it's for real. From their compliance dept. I told them they're idiots to ask for this info by email. It's stupid that after so many years they ask for my birth date. Also they use the fourdivits of my SS# for verification and then do t know my full number cause they don't know it? BS. I hate B of A I never would have used them if Countrywide hadn't gone under and attached them to me.

I got the BoA letter today, not a call, and it had the 844 number listed as the contact, which is not the same number that appears on my card or on my monthly statements. Included were IRS forms W-9 and W-8BEN, presumably downloaded directly from the IRS site and printed out to include with the cover letter requesting I fill them out and mail back to a PO box in Phoenix. The urgent tone of the letter was the first clue this was a scam, and as you probably know, it's little telltale signs that tend to give scammers away. Here, since it wasn't a phone call (weird accents, busy cubicle noises in background, etc.), the gradually escalating urgent tone - if I didn't comply they might have to drill any safety deposit boxes I maintained?!? Right. I'm hiding a lot of stuff from BoA in my box. - convinced me it was definitely a scam. Plus, my regular BoA statements include my credit card number and the last 4 digits of my social, but this letter did not. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SNAIL MAIL PHISHING SCAM. Anybody in this forum who claims they confirmed with BoA that it is legit ARE PART OF THE SCAM, make no mistake.

I am not part of the scam. I received the letter ~10/8/17 asking for DOB. It is in fact real. (Or at least mine was.)The scary words about closing accounts and drilling out locks in safe deposit boxes also convinced me it was probably a scam, so I called the published BofA 800 number. The rep didn't know, but said she'd call the number. After a long wait, she brought someone else on the line, who assured me it was all legit.Since I wasn't positive the original rep hadn't been duped, I carried the letter into our local branch and asked about its authenticity. I was assured with 100% confidence that the letter was legit, and part of a known cleanup effort to get old accounts in compliance.Of course reports of spam calls from 1-844-253-3707 are completely irrelevant to the letter: The scammers can spoof any caller ID number they choose. If you're still not convinced, don't call the 844 number, call the published 800 number and get past the robot answering system to a human by repeatedly asking to "speak to a representative".
