Same letter - called three times, after message ran was hung up on. Went to the Prudential web site, and could not locate any other phone # that started with 855.
This is a follow-up to my previous posting. The Prudential letter and phone number 855-277-8061 are legitimate. The people who answered the phone were courteous and knowledgeable. We have already received our payment from them. In our case, our deceased was not the policy holder. The policy was taken out on the deceased. Hence our confusion. Don't be afraid to call and answer their questions.
I got one as well. I went to the Prudential web site and picked a claims number. They did verify that a large number of these letter were just sent out and that it may be difficult to get through. Then they read me a number to call. I was given 855-277-8061...Still skeptical. Time will tell
I received a letter from Prudential as well, indicating I was a beneficiary on an insurance policy. I checked with a local Prudential office, which verified the telephone number as being a legitimate Prudential number. Based on that, I did call the number in the letter. During the call I was never asked for SS numbers. In my case, the policy is one taken out by the parents of my husband when he was a toddler 70 years ago. Since the parents have died, I am next in line as beneficiary. Check with your local Prudential office first, for your own peace of mind.
I was called on 4/11/2012 by Keane Unclaimed Property Company...their phone #800-848-8896 used the ext. provided and the claim # the voice mail left. The gentleman spoke with me, but when I started to ask questions about Prudential and if this was a scam. He said they were paid through Prudential and that he would put me through to them directly. The next person was a lady with an India type accent. She wanted knew my grandmother, and her children and that they were all deceased. She wanted me to give her my grandmothers SSN, DOB, & DOD. I told her I was not comfortable with that could she send me paperwork and she said no, she gave me a PO in PA to send this info to. My scam radar is up...she did give me a phone # to call Prudential 855-277-8061. I asked her what location this phone number was from...some of these numbers are toll numbers from other countries...She said she was sorry but did not know. When I asked what other info she might need she hung up.
I too got one of these mystery letters. I almost shredded it without opening cause i thought it might be junk mail. The letter was in reference to my father having a life insurance policy. I called the number, and I too was on hold for a long time. The lady I spoke to said that it was a very old policy that it dated back to 1953 and that my grandmother was the beneficiary (she died in 1974). My father died back in 2005. If this is all true my father was only 16 years old at the time, is this possible? I know that my father joined a union when he was young but wouldnt 16 be a little too young? I went to the missingmoney.com and looked my last name up and there is it was, listed for a liquidating dividend from prudential. They are sending me a claim form with a list of required documents needed to complete everything. I am still somewhat suspicious though
I received a similar call. Being suspicious I called the Washington State Insurance Commissioner's office and was told that they had not been receiving complaints and said it sounded like normal protocol. However they also agreed that caution was important. They provided me with the main phone number for Prudential Insurance in New Jersey, 1-973-802-6000. I called that number and spoke with a woman who said the 1-855-277-8061 number sounded familiar. She looked back at some internal correspondence and was able to verify that it is a legitimate Prudential phone number for unclaimed benefits. So I will wait to receive the claim forms and proceed from there.
I did also get this letter. I called the number & went through all info. It indeed was for my deceased fathers insurance (he died 7.5 years ago). His mom must have gotten it for him 50+ years ago. All that for a $249 check. But the point is: it is indeed all legit. I guess the feds are in agreement with Prudential & other insurance companies for not cross referencing policy holders with the death database. Pretty weird, I thought too. Got my check yesterday, October 24th. I got the letter on October 17th, called the number the next morning & was told it would be 4-6 weeks on the check. WOW!
I got the same call today from a gentleman at 610 232-0700 Co name Keane (they're call back is 800 848-8896) who said that my deceased Aunt had an unclaimed policy and that they were working for Prudential as an agent to track down the heirs. He transferred me to 855 277-8061 which he said is claims line for Prudential. Spoke to a woman named Claire who asked for DOB DOD SSN as well in order to start claims process. I put her on hold and called Prudential's Fraud Hotline 877 362-9232. The woman there said that Prudential is in fact involved right now in a project to track down unclaimed policy beneficiaries and that the 855 277-8061 is in fact the official claims number for Prudential. So there you have it...do your own checking if you get a call...can't be too careful of fraud attempts these days.
