I too got an unsolicited call about my mom's life insurance policies--turns out she has 3 we didn't know about. I was concerned about a scam so I went to the Prudential web page and got their general claims number. That person sent me to the 855-277-8061 number so I guess it's legitimate. They're sending me paperwork.
Also received letter, packet was sent out & name on the 1st page was signed from James J. Avery, Jr. President Individual Life Insurance @ 721 Broad Street Newark, N.J. 07102, ph# 1-800-496-1035. Went further on-line to that address & in fact Prudential, but lists # as 1-800-778-2255. If you Google James J Avery, he is indeed the President of Individual Life Insurance. Wii phone tomorrow and double check all.
Got a call from the 855-277-8061 number and they claimed to be Prudential Life and tracking down heirs for unclaimed life insurance policies. My mom died in 2010 and after answering all their questions and satisfying their requirements that they indeed had found the right family, they sent me the claim packet. Called them back when there were a couple of blanks I had questions on and thankfully had the brains to ask how much the policy was worth. I was told it was worth $1.13. Yup ,thats right One Dollar and thirteen cents. So please people before you spend the money on copies and notary ask how much it would be for because it might not be worth your time and effort.
Everyone should, every year or two, go to the unclaimed property website for every state they or their relatives have lived in and run all the names they've used. Companies are always having to turn over unclaimed money to the state. Usually there is a form you can fill out to show why you are entitled to it and you send in the documentation they ask for. We found a tax refund for MIL and oil royalties for deceased FIL. Insurance, utility deposits, forgotten bank accounts, there are various things the state could be holding. You don't need to pay a company to get it for you, either.
If it will go to the state then that is the safest way to find out. Just check your state's unclaimed property website in a few months or years and it will be there. I did and got a few hundred bucks. Had nothing to do with this call, however.
Received letter from Prudential to call 1-855-277-8061. I thought it was a scam. Did not give them any DOB, DOD or SSN. Called the Prudential 1-800 number and wanted to know if this was a scam. Gave me 1-800 numbers to call to assure me this was not a scam. I then called a friend that sells insurance - he verified that the number given to me was Prudential. He also informed me that a lot of insurance companies are under government watch because they were not looking for people that had old claims that were on their books. Instead they would wait and transfer to the state. The government told them that they needed to do research to locate these claims. Prudential is sending me forms to file a claim. It sounded like a scam but it could be true. Ask them to send forms and never, NEVER give SSN, DOB, DOD information over the phone.
Yes, I received a letter stating on 11-12=2012 asking about my deceased father and they had a policy for him and asked me several several several questions, and yes I did give them lots of information because they said they had a prudential policy on him that had to have the forms filled out and done by 12-28-2012, He also called my sister she was not home he left a message for her to call him. THIS IS JUST awful if this is a scam. My, sister has all the things from my folks I did not get anything. The man did keep me on the line along time. IF THIS IS NOT REAL WHAT DO I DO oh my gosh he has all kinds of information about my family from me. HE SURE SOUNDED like all was real. the number on the letter they sent had a caseID # and it stated Leigh Foster, Associate manager, claims. He is suppose to send me forms to fill out and return. THe number on my letter address to me was on Prudential stationary and the phone was 1-855-277-8061 Now I am really worried does anyone know what I do next. He did call my sister and left message for her to call him back. Than, he called me back and told me that he left a message for her to call him back. I just pray this was real I guess time will tell
I called and also waited. Be patient; put your phone on speaker and do something else, like I did. Finally someone got on the line and I gave them my mailing address only. I received via the USPS in a large white envelope with the Prudential logo, return address etc.several pages of forms that look legitimate to me. They also arrived with a large envelope with a return address for the Prudential office in PA. If it is a scam, they are going to great lengths to run it; including intercepting mail from the Prudential office in Philly, so I think it's OK. Good luck!
Free money! all we need is your social security number, your date of birth and all the vital information we can get from you so that we can get Free Money from you!I don't see how any LEGITIMATE business would call someone and if the answering machine picks up that they would hang up. and not leave a message. Anyone who calls and won't leave a message is most likely a bottom-feeding scumbag.
