Thanks to everyone for the info. I to received a call from someone purporting to be from Humana to set up a home visit with a doctor, Caught me by surprise. after reading this I'm going to cancel my appointment. People's health here I come.
I keep getting these calls too ...already told them I dont need their "evaluation" and I Never allow strangers in my home. But they keep calling. I knew it was some sort of scam or just an excuse to invade my privacy. No way .. No how!!
I didn't get this particular call, but I just wanted to comment on the insurance company practice (mine wanted to send a company called Matrix into my home to assess me--it was very confusing because they said they were my health company, they were not, they called with a robocaller and if I didn't happen to get the phone, I didn't know where to call back or whether it was important). The point of it for them, as I understand it, is something about making sure they have all your diagnoses on file, because they do not believe your doctor can put in the right billing codes.I think health insurance companies' time would be better spent trying to work out how to make things easier for the overworked docs, than pushing into patient's homes and making patients take up time to explain their entire health history to a new nurse every year (no, you do not get to see the same person from year to year).I tell them "I would rather have a physical than a wellness exam" and this makes them shut up about how wonderful and helpful for me and my doctor it would be if a nurse came to my home to evaluate me. (Smh: my doctor is great and can assess me just fine, thank you very much.)
I have been receiving these phone calls from Conseo, saying I was pre approved for a dr. visit. Since I have blocked all of their numbers, they have now used numbers that you cannot call back. The number always starts with 172 after my area code. This time I actually got angry with the caller, told her not to call again and hung up on her. There is no way to trace a number that starts with a 1. I don't know what type of call you would call this other than harassment.
If you are using humana medicare advantage the government pays them for the visit. This increases their revenue and profits. They can be quite a pain as they are selling a service and sometimes don't take no for answer. I am called twice a week but never answer these.
Good for you! This is not how home health care works! The patient chooses the agency after prescribed by primary or specialist. This sounds like a huge medicare scam.
It sounds to me like Humana sold numbers to these companies, and then work out a deal with them. Humana will pay less, and these doctors get more clients, win/win for them, but all good doctors i know usually arent looking for clients, so i wonder how good theae doctors are...
I received a letter from Humana about 2 weeks ago telling me that a free service was going to be provided by Censeo by a doctor who would take ridiculously simple tests like blood pressure, pulse, breathing. I can do all of those things MYSELF. It also said that they'd check my medications and ask some questions and that it would probably be around 90 minutes . As soon as I got that I looked up the company on the Internet. From what I saw this company gathers info for insurance companies which might be used by the insurance companies to obtain info they don't have access to. Humana doesn't get your medical records. They know what tests and medicine you take because they pay for it but they don't know your medical history or test results or what you discuss with your doctor. This info could then possibly be used by insurance companies to determine whether they want to keep you as an insured. I also wouldn't be surprised that it isn't relayed to other parties--like the Government. I received a call 2 days after I got the letter as well as one on 11/23 and again today. I have no intention of setting an appt with them. And just because they say it's a doctor, does anyone believe that an MD is going to be spending 90 minutes doing mostly nothing but fill out a questionnaire besides all of the driving time? Doctors wouldn't even work for less than $100 an hour and probably much higher. It's a legitimate company but I don't think they're really doing ethical work. I think it's also a way to get around the HIPAA Privacy Rule.
I got al call as well but did not answer it. They left a msg and I called Humana to verify they had authorized this and they confirmed they had. Talk about an invasion of privacy!!! What kind of physicians do you think they can get to do this? I have read comments from online who say they are physicians working for them and they only get $100 per visit. If the scheduler sends them to a dead address, too bad. They don't get paid unless they do the exam. And they don't get paid for auto expenses, i.e., gas. This is an example of what our health care system has come to. For now, they say the appointment is voluntary, but I wonder how long it will be before you either schedule the appointment or be dropped by Humana?
Humana called today about having a Doctor make a house call. This seems like another waste of money with the potential of harming elderly patients like me. I make annual visits to a General Practitioner and Urologist every year. I make sure blood tests and lab work are done before the annual physical. I ask questions and try to gain a full understanding of my health and well being. I keep copies of medical records and take responsibility staying healthy and not being a burden on my children or the tax paying public. By contrast we will now have what perhaps could be called an "Obama Quack" making house calls. The "Obama Quack" will have no prior factual information about his patients Health upon arrival. Sure the "Obama Quack" can take temperatures, listen to heart beats, measure blood pressure and fill out some type of standard questionnaire; but why on earth pay a doctor to do this.
