Even though I have a Panasonic phone that blocks numbers, I have a new strategy. Been getting lots of telemarketers calling lately. So I set my answer machine to pick up on ring 2. Then all robot calls automatically cut off at just 2 rings. They cannot handle an answering machine so they hang up. No messages are left. Anyone who wants me, just starts leaving a message at ring 2 and I pick up and the answering machine stops while I continue to talk. Then I block the number with my phone. The hard part is getting over the need to answer each right away.
REceived calls from this number prior. DOn't know about this one, but others were from Donald Trump campaign. ASked for a family member who has "no party affiliation". I'm sure it is/was for fund-raising . CAll centers call for any organization that pays, thus same number at times for bothLegitimate(?)and scam. OBviously don't care if we answer or not. GEt paid just to make the calls. DOn't answer any of them. WHy legitimate businesses do this I can't fathom. I miss calls I would have answered had the business been identified. DOn't tell me Bank of America (among other large companies) can't afford to pay someone to make their calls from a recognizable number. THey have/get your dollars but hey! The CEOs & stockholders come first. OUtsource everything.
we get calls from this number a lot, but today I answered and there was no one there. I called the number and they answered quickly but took several seconds for a lady to say 'hello, I'm xxxx with the American Center for Law and Justice.' I've donated to them before, so not surprised that they would call me, but am disappointed that they would not just leave a message when they call so I would know who it was. I just hung up since I didn't want to listen to a sales pitch. I assume they are a boiler room who calls for several organizations.
Just the latest number that calls me.. I get called from at least 4 or 5 different numbers every day. Some numbers have been calling me daily for months, sometimes multiple times a day.I continue to answer my phone due to personal reasons.. and my heart beats fast every time the phone rings, so this is not good for me!
The do-not-call list is legitimate and helpful, but two categories are exempt: nonprofits, and crooks/scammers. Since nonprofits and crooks/scammers do most of the automated calling, that is why being on the no-call list does little good.
Use nomorobo. It will block after the first ring then never let them call again. You can also report to the FTC (though a waste of time) and also use call blocking and forwarding features of your phone provider. Fight back!
If you have good information on a scammer, first take it to your county public prosecutor's office, and then to your state attorney general office. I just attended a superb AARP session on all this stuff, and our state attorney general himself spoke to us, as well as the local country attorney general. They are trying!!! But the number of scams and scammers is increasing sharply. Only us citizens can help in this situation by turning in solid information.
