Stated they were TD. Asked me to verify myself by answering the question with a "yes" response. I verified by using other phrases and they wouldn't proceed until i said "yes". Told the person I would call in on a known TD number and they hung up.
After more digging into this number and similar numbers and additional fraud information.RCMP advise:1. Collect as much information as possible about the caller.2. Do not give out any information on yourself with regards to credit cards, etc.3. Call your bank through a known number, like the one on the back of your card.4. Verify the information you have collected from the alleged bank representative.5. If the bank can not verify the information, then report the caller to the appropriate authorities bank, RCMP, Canadian Anti-Fraud Bureau. The most important thing to understand is never give personal information unless you have initiated the phone call to a known and trusted bank number (back of Credit Card). The scammers are the ones posting to this blog and others saying "Pay your bills!" or some other phrase to that effect.
i simply called the number. it is TD Canada Trust.if you call it and press 1 to speak to rep then tell them you are getting callsthey can look up the reason it is calling you based on your phone number.i recommend this as it could be importantin my case it was a mistake. my number used to be owned by somebody else and TD wants to speak to them. (ahem mr. reality)by calling them, they realized the issue and removed the number from that profile.
The caller id says TD Bank but they leave no messages. Since when does a legit business operate that way? So I did my own research and found the following information of the origins of this numbercity/town- VrjayawadaState - Andhra PradishCountry - IndiaLand line operator- Bharti AirtelRemember at no point has it displayed TDCanadaTrust Bank/Services as it is known as now. It has been presumed.Just saying.
I got called by this number twice, only picked up the first time. The caller asked for my mother not for me, which was the first give away. My mother lives in another country and hasn't been in this one in 4 years. I asked what it was in reference to and he said a personal banking matter. I handle my mom's banking since she left the country so I know her details. I pressed him to give me information on which account, he said he couldn't. It was a trip my mother has no accounts with TD except a joint account with my name on it as well. However the caller said it was only under her name. When I called the number it does sound like a TD answering machine but that means nothing. The part that doesn't match is why ask for her name with my number. The real TD would have my contact and account information to confirm I have power of attorney. Yet they called my number expecting only her. We've been with TD for 20 years and they've never made mistakes with out accounts.
This number is a scammer, I've been receiving phone calls for over a week now from them, i answer and a heavy accented women always talks. I ask who she is, and she hangs up and if i call back there is no answer and no voice mail set up.I went on my online banking and saw that there were a few actions with my credit card that I hadn't done.I received a phone call from the real TD number and they left a message to contact them.A gas station i went to recently just got caught for scamming and stealing pin numbers. You're also at a huge risk with online banking. If you're receiving calls from this number i recommend you call the real TD as soon as possible and change all of your information/pins/cards. Especially around Christmas Season.Good luck!
Yes, i have started receiving calls from them and I don't HAVE any debts with them anymore. I settled my debt, paid it off almost two months ago and now they've started calling again...
