The reality of the situation is when these scammers do call they are off shore and are not subject to Canadian Law. This number called with only TD Bank on the call display. There was no number associated with the call display. They did leave this number as a call back number 866-485-5354. I typed it in my search engine, low and behold, this is the first thing on the list. Complaints about this number. I have had similar phone calls from people pretending to be RBC on a 855-560-1406 number. Currently RBC is investigating this number and other numbers in that range. In a contact email, they have already stated all numbers show up on the RBC website. These scammers have some information, but not all your information. They are "Phishing" for more information. The banks already have your information.1. Check your bank website for all contact numbers.2. Report to RCMP Phonebusters or Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency and your bank (more imortantly, the security/fraud division).3. If you do answer and talk to somebody, then get the following information: a. Full Name of the person calling/Employee Number b. Any and all call back numbers c. Address of their location (Street Address, City, Province (State), Country d. Tell them you will call them back after verifying the above information4. Do not cave in to threats or harassment as it is their job to separate you from your money. Banks do not threaten or harass people, they do their best at friendly customer service.5. If they tell you to mail your money to a specified address, write the address down to pass along to the appropriate authorities. Always do transactions with your bank directly.6. Be aware of mail fraud and email fraud. They will try to send you official looking notices. These items are easy to fabricate.5. If they keep harassing, then notify them you will be contacting your bank, the RCMP, the Anti-Fraud Agency and as many news agencies to warn them of this SCAM.
They called me this morning and I called back it was TD Bank I proceeded to stay on the line and a representitive said they were looking for someone named Ivan and I said nobody live at this residence under that name and she said okay I apologize the call wasn't meant for you, ignore the call please lol she was really nice about the whole situation
Just received a call and googled the numer to find this page. The call ended as soon as I answered and I decided to call the number back. It's TD. Doesn't seem to be a scam. Yeah lady who answered gave me her name and had me answer some security questions which were not intrusive and were simple yes or no questions. She looked at my file and said she doesn't know why I was called. Seemed legitimate to me anyways
Don't have to 'check my accts' because I don't even have a canadian account since I'm just a tourist and just bought a canadian sim. But still these [***] keep bothering me. Staying classy doesn't really work out over here ey?
