Today I received a bogus charge of $8.99 to my debit card that says "APL* ITUNES.COM/BILL 866-712-7753 CA" I haven't purchased anything on ITUNES!!! I will be canceling this card asap.
I am normally a very happy Apple customer. When my child spent hundreds on in app purchases, they refunded it, no questions asked. When my laptop was stolen, they let me redownload everything I had ever bought, no questions asked. And they let me do it again when I accidentally wiped my new hard drive. They've been helpful and prompt most of the timem and I appreciate normally good service. That's why I am so surprised to find that this scam has been going on as far back as 2009. The thing with this number is that it is affiliated with Apple somehow. On my credit card statement, this is listed next to the fraudulent itunes purchases:APL*APPLE ITUNES STORE 866-712-7753This is listed next to the legitimate itunes purchases:APL*APPLE ITUNES STORE 866-712-7753Hm.They hit me for two, three thousand on multiple cards before I caught it. I did NOT ask Apple for a refund. Instead, I went to my bank, who immediately refunded me every dime. Then they go to Apple for their refund, and that must have pissed them off, because now I can't download anything more expensive than a couple of dollars. What makes me angriest about this is that Apple hasn't been able to stop the fraud, even though this scam has been going on for years. My best guess is people working for Apple get the account info and sell it. I just don't see any other way this can work for so long. Then again, I'm not a criminal, so I'm probably missing something. In any case, my advice is to open a fraud investigation through your bank instead of Apple. Let them hash it out.
This number is not Apple ITunes!! It is a scam! It is associated with the game Hit IT Rich and when you buy coins they hit your account multiple times in the same day with the same transaction number....We went through this and luckily we used Pay Pal and got our money back!!!
I paid for Birdman and I would like a refund on it.I can't download it to my phone . I don't have wifi .
I checked my credit card statement today and it showed a half dozen charges that I thought I didn't make, all less than $10.00. I called my credit card company. This has been going on since at least the beginning of the year. After cancelling my credit card I had my daughter check her iTunes account info. It seems there were over a dozen automatic re-subscriptions in her files. Each one matched up to the cent to my statement. She went in and edited them as "I did not intend to purchase this." I don't know if the automatic subscription renewals were covered in any "fine print" when she purchased a game or whatever. My advice is to READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU BUY. I'm guessing there are hidden charges and such. Apple recently became the wealthiest company on the planet. I'd like to think they're not doing anything underhanded. If anyone wants to pursue legal matters, this may classify as interstate fraud and may be a federal offense.
