Same as others, Call from Linda. When I called the number it even went through a "Thank you for calling Capital One, please hold...". After some time, someone came on line and asked me for my account number. When I said I did not have an account with Capital One, I was told that they are having technical difficulties and please call back after some time. I called some time later and this time gave a imaginary number. After 5 seconds, I was disconnected abruptly. Beware!
This is an ongoing scam.In the past, I have contacted Capital One directly, not the number provided (I suggest anyone who needs to contact back do the same) and they had no record of my being contacted nor any business to discuss.Be very wary.Received a call at 6am on my cell from 813-274-1837 called it back and an elderly man answered. I said is this Capital One and he said no and hung up.
I called several times because I kept getting cut off. They told me they were having phone troubles. Each person I spoke to wanted an account number. As soon as I said I didn't have a capital one account the phone disconnected.. No phone trouble they just hung up. Total scam do not give out any personal information and block the number.
Got the same call, don't have and never had any cards from Capital One. Asked my wife and we have three cards, none through or from Capital One. I have a feeling it has nothing to do with Capital One and plays off of misinformed individuals. I love answering machines, I am sure they hate them.
Called back-the first thing they asked was by credit card #--I said no-then they asked for my SS#. Total scam!
I let my voicemail pick up on an incoming call today from a Richmond, VA number: 804-217-7156. "Linda" said she needed to discuss my Cap One account, to please call 866-953-7906. I called Cap One Customer Service (number on back of my actual card.) No record of anyone trying to contact me....said it was a phishing attempt, and praised me for calling the actual Customer Service number to verify. They transferred me to the fraud dept to complete a report on it. My husband called the fake numbers to "mess" with the scammers, and they are identifying themselves as Cap One employees, but it IS a SCAM!!!!
Of course they name a bank that is one of the largest; they have a better chance of catching a phish with that bait. The message that I received said to call 866-953-7906, but it came from 813-202-7244, so that wasn't a good sign.
i just called the number back. it is capital one. "linda" is their automated vm person. i am not behind but just went over my limit, of which i already made a payment (same day). person told me that was the reason why i got the vm so i should not get any more calls from "linda". so either you are over your limit, past due or they have suspicious activity on your account.
I got the same message from "Linda" as mentioned by others. The number on my caller ID was 813-202-7244 and the number I was asked to call was 866-953-7906. I *do* have personal and business-based Capital One cards (all in good standing) and the ONLY calls I've ever received from them have been when they noticed what appeared to be suspicious activity on my cards; in one case, my business card had been stolen. THIS however is obviously a scam. "Linda" sounds as if she recorded the message in a wind tunnel. Not at all professional. I'm so tired of low-life scammers...
Received a call from this number from "Linda". Followed the same line that callers above had. I don't have a Capital One Credit Card and never have had one :-) Good times. I plan to call them up though since I do have Financial Accounts affiliated with Capital One (thru ING Direct and ShareBuilder). Good times.
