I received a call from this number and called the number on the back of my card instead. I didn't think to ask them whether that is their number or not, but they did have transactions flagged as possibly fraudulent. So, if it is a scam, it seems they somehow have access to Wells Fargo's information, So I'm guessing the number is actually Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo did indeed say that they had a flag on my account, but that when in doubt to always just call the number on the back of your card to be sure. Frankly, I haven't seen this number listed ANYWHERE on wellsfargo.com, so maybe these people somehow are privy to wells fargo information (and that is certainly known to happen).
This number called me 888-671-8468 twice today claiming they were wells fargo and that my account had some weird activity on it, I knew it was a scam and hung up them. They called me again and didnt say anything so I hung up, and called wells fargo to verify and they said that this number is not one of there numbers and there was no reason that they would be contatcing me.DONT I REPEAT DONT GIVE THESE SCAMMERS ANY INFO, NOTHING NOT EVEN THAT YOU HAVE A ACCOUNT.
I received a call from this "Wells Fargo Fraud" number within minutes after an online transaction with a Wells Fargo credit card. It seemed like a scam so I didn't give them any information. However, the credit card transaction wasn't approved, so I gave WF a call. Turns out this number was not a scam. That transaction was detected as fraud, and they needed my approval.I think this is a bad move on the part of Wells Fargo. The recording makes it seem like a scam instead of a legitimate credit card fraud alert. However, by calling WF directly, I was able to solve this problem within minutes.
This is a legitimate call. I opted to call the # on the back of my card and speak to an operator who handled the transaction. However, with this or any other transaction involving sensitive information, get in the habit of calling the number on the back of your card or the main bank customer service number.Sitting through a couple of extra automated menus is worth adding that layer of protection!
This is almost certainly a fraudulent call.I had a missed call from this number, and a voicemail. The message claimed to be from G.E. Credit Fraud Prevention, inquiring about a GAP account.I don't have a GAP account. Nor do I bank with wells fargo.
Got 2 phone calls from this number - the first one did not leave any other message other than to call. The 2nd time, I called the 800 number they supplied to verify and discovered that:THIS NUMBER IS A VALID WELLS FARGO PHONE NUMBER!!CALL 800-723-5533 TO VERIFY IT YOURSELF !!Now take 4 deep breaths, and relax.
I got a call from this number and called back, just based on my phone number and last four digits they could tell me the purchases I made just today, it's legit, I agree with LisaAZ, take a breath and chill out :)
Good advice! I got a call from my bank (CitiBank), and when they said 'fraud alert', I said "I'll call you back". Guess the agent was inexperienced, as she said- "OK- here's the number" . I told her that as she had called me, there was NO number, she could give me that I would use, unless it matched the one on the card or statement, which it didn't. I wasn't surprised it was a fraud alert. I was surprised a "bank fraud agent", would offer me a number to call.btw, just to make it murkierwhen I was (legitimately) called about a fraud alert, that alert did NOT appear on the web page, after I logged in.Just my 2 cents
