THIS IS LEGIT -- not a phishing/scam. They called and asked if I had bought tickets to an event, because they suspected my card was being used for fraudulent charges. I called back, very skeptical, and TKT Master provided the information: asked if I had purchased tickets to a specific event which type of card, last four digits. She asked a few more yes and no questions, and did not ask me to provide any additional information. She recommended I call my credit card company and report the fraud, which I did. (I was already looking at my credit card account and could see the charges she mentioned as "pending". ) What's in it for Ticket Master? By catching the fraud on my card for two transactions of $1000 each, they aren't out $2000. I believe when you report the fraud to your Credit Card company, you get the charges removed, but the seller (ticketmaster, sears, the hotel, etc.) are left with the loss. It's presumed they didn't properly check/confirm the identity of the person making the charges, to the person who owns the credit card.
WRONG, Tony! Just got this same call. We called the general number for Ticketmaster instead of calling the number left on our machine because we were concerned it might be a scam. Ticketmaster verified the number as correct for their Fraud Department and informed us they received a large ticket purchase on our Discover card. We DID NOT verify any credit card information with Ticketmaster. We then followed up with our Discover card and there indeed was a fraudulent charge.
Hi Paul,I'm wondering how you guys get the cardholder's phone numbers. You would think that if someone is trying to fraud someone, the contact info that they provide is fake to avoid detection. Are customers required to input phone numbers when they make transactions? Do you contact the Credit Card company or use software to pull up their contact info?-mickey
Just got a call from this number and verified it as legitimate by calling the TM Customer Service Department. No one asked for any credit card info--in fact, the gentleman I spoke with at the Fraud Department stated that they had already determined that the charge was fraudulent and strongly recommended we contact our bank to cancel the card--which we had already done. The charge they called about showed as a pending charge when we checked account activity online.Good catch by TM, and good customer service. And Tony, if you leave us your phone number and street address I'm sure someone would be happy to stop by your place to provide you with some one on one counseling in recognition of your earlier post. Shame on you, and here's hoping karma catches up with you quickly.
This is a legit number for Ticket Master. I didn't give them anything other than the order number they left with me on a voicemail. They knew my name and the last four of the card used (my card). I didn't give them any information (and they didn't ask), but they had already determined the transaction to be fraudulent and refunded my money. I confirmed that I saw the charge with online banking.
I rcvd the message today. They left the information for the ticket master fraud dept. with the order #. I called my AMX customer service and indeed two 400+ orders were made today for an event in another state. AMX cancelled the orders and opened an investgation. I called the number for support for tickets purchased for Ticket Master. The person looked up the order with the number that was left on my vm by the criminals and then asked for the last four digits of my CC ( i gave them it because I already cancelled the card). He verified it was purchased and recently canceled. The Fraud Dept is closed but i will be calling tomorrow so I can help with catching these criminals. I want to know how they obtained my CC information. I am happy I used my AMX because they have excellent Cutomer Service!
Jan 2, 2016, this number proved legit. (Caller ID from my answering machine showed 1-800-653-8000, but I was asked in the voicemail by a HUMAN named Chastity to return the call to Ticketmaster, which WAS 888-731-4111.) Sure enough, I Googled the #, read this forum here, checked my cards online, and YUP...some low-life criminal was in Manhattan using my debit card info to stay in a boutique hotel, drink booze, and see a show on Broadway. THANKS to Ticketmaster's Fraud Dep't for catching it and alerting me. Otherwise, I'd have had to wait until Monday, Jan 4 to report the fraud to my local bank! (With TM's help, I shut 'em down.) People wonder how their cards get compromised? Hate to say it, but once you use it, it's "out there". Any retailer can get hacked. It's the price we pay for the convenience.
Dec 18, 2016. After calling back and talking to a guy named David at Ticketmaster, things seemed to me to be OK since he answered the call and he hadn't asked for any information about my account. I contacted my CC company and they confirmed there was a Ticketmaster charge that was declined. In any case, since it appeared someone gone my account information, I requested a new card.
