Same call, heavy accent, Washington D.C. caller ID (202) she said, "I am calling from the U.S. Government (unintelligible) department. You are eligible for a $9000 grant. Now you might be asking why you are eligible for a $9000 grant ..." At this point I interrupted and asked, "What department of the U.S. Government?" She started her response, "The (unintelligible again) department" then the call cut off.
I received a call from this # today on my cell phn. I had applied for a position in the DC area a few months back so when the # showed on the caller ID I got excited. A lady with a thick accent said I had been issued a government grant for $9,000 and I could receive it in my bank account or loaded to my debit or credit card. She kept using the term "plastic card". She said after I give her the acct. # that I want the funds to be transferred to then she would give me a call back # to speak with my acct. mgr who would give me an ID# and the funds would be in my acct witching 40 mins. (Knowing it was a scam and trying to think how to get some info) I asked how I was selected for the grant and she said every year the gov. gives out 1500 grants to people who pay their bills on time and have no criminal record (which was funny since I unfortunately have had some little pays recently). I told her to give me the call back # and I would give the acct. mgr my acct. info. She said I had to give her my acct info. So I said, "do you think I'm a fool?!!! Since when does the gov. hire people that barely speak English (ok this gov. does, but anyway that is what I said to her) to distribute gov. grants." She quickly hung up. I called back several times and my phn said "call failed" each time. DO NOT GIVE ACCOUNT INFO.
This call just came in on one of our cell phones. Heavily accented woman called from 202-210-0054 to over $9K in US Government Grant. When she was told that the recipient would listen although the recipient knew is was a scan, she hung up. This is a FCC violation and a complaint was filed with the FCC. Anyone who receives this call, should note the date, time and any other information, and file an online complaint form with the FCC at www.fcc.gov. If the FCC gets enough people to report and give any pertinent information, they will nail these bums! This goes for unwanted texts messages, prerecorded calls, etc.
Same call, heavy accent, Washington D.C. caller ID (202) she said, "I am calling from the U.S. Government (unintelligible) department. You are eligible for a $9000 grant. Now you might be asking why you are eligible for a $9000 grant ..." But when I said that I needed to leave he proceeded to tell me he loved me multiple times
THE WOMAN ON THE PHONE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS OUTSIDE WITH WIND & THEY WANTED ME TO SIGN UP FOR SOME KIND OF GRANT FOR 9000.00. SHE COULD LIKE BE UNDERSTOOD, HEAVY ACCENT & I HUNG UP WHEN SHE STARTED ASKING IF I WANTED THE GRANT
This number has called me multiple times over the last month. I never answer and finally blocked the number on my phone.
I got the same $9000 grant offer - they kept asking "OK?" - I said I would not answer OK as that would be agreeing to something - and they hung up.
I just got a call from 202-210-0054. Automatically I sat up b/c the call came on my secondary number that MAYBE 10 people have. The guy on the other line introduced himself as Wilson Smith with a heavy Indian accent and said he was from the Federal Governments Grants Department. lol. OK. I had heard of scams like these (may have even fallen for one in my late teens), plus i was at my desk at work bored. I decided to go along with it. First he asked me was i the owner of the phone (red flag). I ask who was he looking for. He couldn't tell me, and kept asking me to give him my name. At that time I decided to go in. I asked him for his number. At first he couldn't give it bc this was a once in a lifetime thing. Then i asked where he was located. he said Washington DC. I told him I didn't believe him what's the address. He asked me how could I prove it? At this point he was getting frustrated bc i'm dominating his scam call very calm and politely. lol. So he gives me this address: 200 indepent ave sw dc. ok. Sure. He starts saying he didn't believe i was the owner of the phone, but still couldn't tell me who he was looking for. I asked for his employee ID number. he gave: mnph1003578 (I cut him off after 1 bc i knew it was bogus). By the grace of convo domination (I'm a woman) he gave me these tele numbers as CS related (I asked him "when you have to call in sick to work, what number do you call") 202-470-0188 and 202-354-7070 x175.Then I asked for a supervisor who he said was extremely busy.... Standard call center. He was flustered that i was asking so many questions, but didn't ask why he was calling. I told him bc I knew he was a scam. I would like to be place on your DNC registry. I would be in contact with the Attorney General of they're state, Consumer services etc.... Then he said "I will" bc I don't believe you are the person of this phone. I told him my name was Elizabeth. He said he didn't believe me. I told him PROVE IT.This is just ridiculous.
