This is the phone number for Google Voice's automated verification system. It is a real number! If you have just set up an account or if you have changed your password, it's fine. But it looks like spammers are trying to use Google Voice to try and high jack users cell phone accounts, too. If you have posted your phone number anywhere (Craig's list etc), scammers have it and will try to gain access. But I'm sure they will try random numbers in order to get access to your accounts, as well. Bottom line is, if you didn't initiate any action on your phone, NEVER enter codes, or give information. If you are not expecting a verification call, DON'T answer it. But it's not the fault of Google Voice that criminals are using their business number to try and scam people.

This is connected to a text phishing for info. When you call in the code, they add unwanted "services" on you phone. From Robert Tucker on techynotes.net: "When you reply back with -44- to "VERIFY," it's possible that you were just signed up for a paid service unknowingly. Get in touch with your phone company and make sure that a new or "third party service" hasn't been added to your account recently and keep and eye on your bills to make sure you don't see something new added like some off the wall "third party" voice mail service."

Got three spam texts, about weight loss, on my cell phone from 814 367 3071, after the second one I replied " do not contact me again, take me off your list" the third gave me a "verification code" then about 30 seconds later I get a call from 202 455 8888 with a recording asking me to enter my "verification code". I am not sure what kind of scam this is but I hung up, & blocked both numbers on my phone. People beware there are lots of low lifes out there working to steal what the US Government has not already stole from you.And for all the google people out there I do not have ANY accounts with google, I have NEVER requested anything from google. So I am confident this is some type of scam.

I GOT A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER ON MY CELL PHONE BUT DID NOT ANSWER THE CALL AND WHEN I TRIED TO CALL BACK SAID CALL COULD NOT BE COMPLETE FRICKING SCAMMERS

I just got a call from this number and it's just told me some numbers

I received a text from 312-600-7279 saying "message from user #79138: hey, this new stuff is really working. I look really awesome now! bit.ly/169LOSB" I replied with stop texting and it sent " activation # and please enter verification code when we call you". Then two minutes later the phone rang from the 202 number. I don't see how this could be anything from google or anything else legit!!!
