number appeared on my phoneit was Google Voice ...an automated verification call that I initiated as I was setting up a new Google Voice number. It is legitmate
Received call yesterday and said to press 66 for message which I did and then they said card was activated. I do not want this card! Absolutely not and I blocked number from my phone!
All the message boards say this number is from a person who tries to collect money for a "birthday" gift for a relative. This person is repeatedly calling my cell phone. I don't answer calls from unknown numbers, but I do look them up immediately just in case it is legit. This one is not.
I keep getting calls from this number but they leave a voicemail with a numerical code, say thank you, and hang up. I am not calling them back. Sounds like someone trying a new tactic to scam.
I got a call from 202-455-8888 on my cell phone yesterday and it gave me a verification code. A man I have been speaking with via phone, email, & yahoo messenger for over 4 months told me I would be getting this call so he can connect with me on another chat program. I do not have a google mail account. I do not know what is going on here and feel that I may be a victim of a scam and have checked my phone account constantly. I have not seen an unusual charges so not sure what this is for. I will report this to the government agency because it needs to stop.
A client posted two YouTube videos as private that she wanted to share with me (I do tutoring over the phone and they were videos of her kids doing some of the exercises). YouTube required me to login to see the videos, and create/activate the Google/YouTube account. After you give them a User ID and password, if you specify "call me to activate the account", an automated call from this number arrives with an activation code that you will need to type in to complete setting up the account (my bank uses the same authentication system as the recorded lady had the same voice). It was in this case, the call was legit. However, be aware that there is telemarketing equipment out there that allows the telemarketers to type in the number they wish to have displayed in the recipient's Caller ID display. They can type in any number they wish, whether toll free, legit or spoofed. It appears that the scam artist mentioned by "missed agian" (sic), had spoofed a legitimate number. "Llama's Mama" reported what others have said, and not what she personally experienced. If you were setting up a Google or YouTube account, and are expecting a call, pick it up.
1202-455-8888 calls like they are Google recovery because they hi jacked my phone and keep changing my password
