Yes it can be faked. It's called spoofing. If you receive a call from your own number it has been spoofed and someone is trying to social engineer (get information out of you to use at a later date) to hack your accounts. It's sort of old school. Never give any personal info out to someone that you did not call yourself. Sometimes they will call several times over the period of months to a year. Each time gathering more information from you. Please don't fall prey to these techniques. They are not your friend and being lonely is not an excuse to give out your info. If you receive a call from your own number don't answer it.
I received a call from 202-455-8888 to enter a code of 42. I met a handsome guy that befriended me. He said he lived in San Jose Ca.. He said he was an Engineer by profession and own his own business as a contractor and a consultant. He supposedly had a contract in Turkey. He then proceeded to say he need money. I told him I didn't have any. He sent me a copy of a million dollar contract. Then proceeded me to put in a code 42 when I. Get the call. My dumb @$$ did it. But I Didn't give any info as prompted. He knew all the sweet words to say and really had me going. That was until I looked up the number and found out it was nothing but a scam!

What happened is that person trying to scam you in some way, claimed your number on their google voice account/google account. You can easily reclaim it, by going to google.com/voice and going into the settings menu and add your number under forwarding numbers. You will get the call again, but it will ask for a code that google gave you and not some stranger.I did it like a fool, trying to play along with the scam, but since I'm very familiar with Google services I swiftly reclaimed my number to avoid any issues.
