The call I got was from Amazon. They called once and hung up when I didn't answer. They called back about a minute later and left a VM. It's too bad that I couldn't understand what the lady said. I was able to understand "Amazon" and I think she may have said that she would send me an email.I sell on Amazon and I had contacted Amazon Seller Support last week, so perhaps they're finally getting around to answering my question?
I just got a call from this number, which did not leave a voicemail. A few minutes later I get a call from someone speaking with an African accent, telling me she GOT MY NUMBER from Amazon.com & was calling about unlocking my cellphone. I smell a scam.
I got several calls from this number that I didn't know. I did finally answer it and it is Amazon Support. They were calling about a recent order of mine. This is Amazon calling from a Seattle number. Totally legit!
When I dial the number back, it immediately goes to "Please hang up and try your call again later." & disconnects.
I called Amazon Customer Service. They said this is NOT an Amazon support number, and there is no way that anyone could get my number from Amazon.com unless I'm a seller & have my number listed for contact. Their privacy policy, which I reviewed, also prohibits releasing a number. They had no idea why I would have received a call now, & the last call they documented was in September '10. This is a scam. Anyone who gets a call from this number or anyone saying they are calling because Amazon.com gave them their number should call Amazon.com to complain.

This is truly an Amazon #. On Amazon's website I requested a customer service call to return a gift that I wanted credited back to the sender. I immediately received a call from this # - was disconnected 3 times, but eventually did talk to a customer service rep who emailed me the appropriate return labels.
Yes, this is an amazon.com number. If you want to talk with someone in customer service, you can request a call-back from "the next available agent" by logging your own phone number into a website form. It saves you from being on-hold, and saves them by not paying a phone bill to keep you on hold. The process explains how you might receive a call when you don't have any transactions with amazon.com - because if someone types in an incorrect phone number which happens to be yours, guess who gets the call back.
