For anyone getting calls from this number on your cell phone, I have Verizon wireless and was able to BLOCK the number (in addition to filing a complaint with the FTC online).
We just got a similar phone call from a phone number in Tacoma, Washington. The number that the call came from was: 253-820-3089. We have an unlisted phone number so they must call via computer generated random numbers. There was a woman and then a man, both from East India (they were actually in India, not Tacoma). They claimed our computers were infected and that they were getting LOTS of error messages from our computers, and that our computers were going to crash any moment now. We kept asking what company they were from and they said "Micro Computer Fix." We told them we had not hired anyone from a company with that name and wouldn't answer any of their questions so they hung up on us.Wonder how many people they actually scam doing this? Hopefully none.
the number shown on caller ID was actually +12 253-820-3089. They called several times a day for a week or so until I answered. they refused to say what the call was about when i questioned them until the hung up.
Same calls all morning, eventually i answered saying I was the "recently deceased Osama Bin Laden" he said" good morning Mr. Bin Laden, I love your work" your computer is infected, blah, blah, blah. Wow, didn't know dead terrorists could talk. I love it when he said "I love your work." that to me sent me off the top. First of all who talks to dead people? Who loves the works of terrorists? and who talks to people who speaks perfect English which Osama didn;t at all.
Just had a call from this number in north Qld, Australia 8:14pm Wed night. Same deal as many other people...no-one on the line, then a female voice saying goodbye. About 30 minutes later I got a call from an Indian telemarketer. This one was telling me I will be getting my telephone line rental at a much cheaper rate from next week. I could barely understand what he was saying and kept asking him to repeat himself. He finally said he'd had enough of the BS and hung up on me! Mind you, this telemarketer could be just a coincidence as I get between 4 and 8 missed calls a day from private numbers. I think they try to contact you using some sort of bot - hence the ghost phone calls, when you answer they bump you up the queue to be called by a person. Its gotten to the stage that if I hear a foreign indian/pakistani accent I immediately think scam!
We keep getting calls from 253-820-3089 and the man on the other end told us that our entire computer network and phone systems were going to crash. He would not give us his name or location as to where he was calling from.
Had call today from this number from a guy with an Indian accent, saying he was from Windows repair group and that I had a problem in downloading "bad" files, wanting me to follow his instructions to check and fix the problem. I asked where he got my number, how he was able to know that my computer was associated with the phone number he called since it was a relatively new number to which he made a number of silly, unintelligent comments. I then asked for a supervisor, where he replied that I was not authorized to do that, that I had to talk to him and take his instructions. My response was that I had no obligation to talk to him, to follow his instructions, and that he was just wanting to get access to the computer for some reason. He repeated that he was authorized, that my computer showed problems, and that I needed to follow his instructions. Round and round we went, until I finally got tired of it and hung up...I thought he would hang up sooner, when asking for a supervisor since that usually makes these types of people go away, but he was very insistent and persistent. After all this, I called back the number and got a message that it was "disconnected and no longer in service".
Just called me, recognized his voice from all the other times he'd called. Reminded me of APU on the Simpson's "tank you come again!".
Yep, just like you all, I got a call from "Victor" who sounded more like an Indian guy. I too work in IT and played along for a while. When I started asking him some basic IT questions, he giggled nervously. I laughed and hung up.
