Man with heavy Indian accent called and said he was from Microsoft. Asked me if I knew my computer could crash if I didn't give him information. Said he had been monitoring my computer. I told him it was a scam and he was a liar and not to call again.
I just got a call from this number. He told me his name and before he can say anything else, I asked him if he knew that I'm on the DO NOT CALL Registry. He ignored me and tried to continue on with his BS. I interrupted him again and asked him the same question again but only louder. He got the message this time and apologizied for bothering me. And I told him not to call this number again. But, I don't think it's going to do any good.
Received this call 2 weeks ago but did not pick up. Based on postings here, I filed a complaint with the FTC and the FCC (big help the George Bush flunky at the FCC is), and blocked the number. Received 2 more calls today and call blocker worked just fine. Before retiring, I was an IT Supervisor and IT Manager. I haven't had a virus on my home network in over 15 years. In fact, I help friends clean their computers and protect them.
The heavy breathing has gone international.... got a call in Ireland this morning
Just got a call from an indian sounding man...my computer has 34 viruses and he would like to fix it for me before it crashes...needless to say after his spiel i politely informed him i do not own a computer (i know...but its true) !!!!
I just recieved a call. My caller ID said it was from Washington Call with the above number. My husband couldn't understand the person on the other end; so he turned the phone over to me and the caller sounded like a foreigner, he asked if my computer was running and Something about viruses and it was about to crash...I hung up on him... It really frecked me out and I did a search of the ID name and number... So glad I found this site..
I just got one too. "Wireless Caller" is the first clue. And they are doing this practically from Microsoft's backyard (Tacoma area). What nerve! Here's a little test for them. See if they know who Ray Ozzie, Nathan Myhrvold or "Major" Nelson. Any long-time Microsoft person would know. Using Gates or Ballmer is too easy.
Received a call from this number 253-820-3089 today, identified on caller ID only as "wireless caller." When I answered, a male voice with a heavy Indian accent said, "This is John calling from tech support about your computer." (They've improved the opening line a bit.) When I asked, "what tech support?" he hung up.
Been getting these calls for a while. My room mate is tired of it. I was finally home and got the treatment personally. 1) The 253 number is obviously a hacked phone. 2) The trail ends at Comantra E. Solutions in Kolkata. ) they once were a gold certified rep for microsoft but supposedly were down graded. 3) they're email is www://.comantra.net. and finally 4) they are, at least by the posts I read, not gonna stop. But my question is why Verizon is not killing that number with over 10,000 complaints on google alone. I'd advise everyone to contact verizon unlawful call center @ 800-257-2969 between 8 and 5. Maybe the wire fraud act has no teeth but we can kill one freakin phone. By the way the VP for verizon in charge of this stuff is Thomas J Tauke and also serves in public service in dubuque Iowa. Now you can all start typing. Good night.
