Doesnt leave message on answering machine; get calls all day long and look them up on this site...all spam calls. They are making the case for getting rid of landlines as the "Do Not Call" List isnt very effective for these types of calls.
We received three calls this morning tellin us we had an emergency signal coming from our computer all week and it needed to be accessed to be fixed. We even told them it was a fraud call and hung up on them and they called backnow again. They were very nasty with you with my husband. Caller ID said it was Kenneth Brown.
Female, not a native English-speaker, very heavy Indian accent. Tried to tell me my computer's been sending them alert messages for several weeks. I let her give me the whole spiel, then asked her if she was with Microsoft. She said yes and insisted I do the whole ctrl-windows button-R deal. Sounded like she was reading off instructions and I could hear her tv running in the background.Told her I'd be happy to, but that I didn't think that would do any good. She kept insisting. Finally told her to stuff her scam cuz I was using a Mac and it wasn't even online. Dead silence and then a hangup click.
LOL -- well Beethoven, a 4 digit IQ is not required to have enough common sense to kow when you're being sold snake oil, but hey ... there's one born every minute. And by the way, if you're looking for an awesome investment opportunity, I have some swamp land to sell ya!
These people called me today pretending to be from Microsoft and telling me that my computer is sending them error messages. The first guy had a thick Asian accent and I couldn't understand him so i said to give me someone who speaks English. The second guy who came on had a thick Indian accent who I barely understood. I messed with him for like 10 minutes and then told him to stop scamming people with this bull. He started yelling and cursing at me, and i hung up on him. I already reported him. We need to stop these scammers somehow.
Foreign-accented man, told me I had computer problems and he could fix them. I gave him the "hard of hearing routine" for awhile using my best old lady voice, then told him I didn't have a computer (a lie). The number is now blocked.
Bottom line y'all ... no one reputable is going to call YOU and ask for remote access to your computer. You might as well go leave your wallet and credit cards out in the street. Now, if YOU are calling THEM (any legitimate reputable company) for technical support, then theymight need to gain your permission so they can view your screen so they can see what's going on, and walk YOU through what needs to be done. They have no control of your machine.Seriously, there are just too many red flags that go up when someone is calling YOU saying you have a computer issue. They prey on your fear. Just stop and think for a minute. Use common sense. It isn't a super power -- everyone has it, jsut most choose not to use it.
Guy called, stayed on the phone for 20 minutes. He insisted I was having problems with my computer. I said, "If you really work for Microsoft, then what is the computer license you keep talking about." Guy gets upset, starts raising his voice and yelling. I calmly said, "Don't raise your voice. If you are providing a service, then you shouldn't be raising your voice to a customer." He calmly tells me, "Ma'am, just do what I say , please. Or you are wasting my time" I told him he has the wrong number and that the "license" number does not match. I told him to call again on Thursday since I am at work and hung up. Hasn't called again.
