I have been getting calls from this number a couple of times and today they left a voice message regarding immunization. Just saved to my contacts as SPAM and added to my reject list. Here is the message I received:"Hello. I'm calling on behalf of the centers of disease control and prevention for nationwide study about childhood immunization. Would you please call us toll free at 1877 267 8155.bla bla... Thank you, bye"
Just had a call...which rather frightened me as it was on my emergency cell phone which is for close friends and family only. 8:41PM is too late to be calling. My number is registered with DNC...and this is the third call so far. I told the person on the other end to hang up...and I could hear him still talking as I disconnected. My calls cost 16 cents per minute.. I don't have that much to waste on folk calling from a Chicago phone number for ANY reason.
We got a piece of mail from these folks a few weeks before the calls started. It is a legit health survey. And they explain that they will be calling. There goal is to collect health information on many people so they can put together trends.
I agree with everything that you're saying except for the Do Not Call list thing. As far as I know, the DNC registery is for known telemarketer numbers and callers like this one who get reported. It is not for landlines and legitimate numbers from businesses and orginizations such as things like the Red Cross and universities and other schools or government orginizations. Even if you are on the DNC list, which I am as well, you might still get calls from places like that, and landlines. This is one of the main reasons of why scammers have turned to using landlines. Now, I got a call from this number as I was leaving work tonight and didn't answer because I didn't know it. Does seem fishy though, since I got no letter about this supposed survey, was almost 8:30 at night, and have no children at home.
> I received an official letter from the HHS...I did not receive such a letter, BUT...I just finished filling out my taxes using TurboTax. At the very end, there was a button to click for ObamaCare. I skipped it, as I get my health insurance through my employer.Howeer, within a few minutes after closing Turbo Tax, I got a call from this number, Caller ID'ed as "NORC U CHICAGO".Coincidence? I just hung up on the sleazy S.O.B.s. The CDC is a totally sleazy government organization.
Its SUNDAY night at 8:20 PM they called me- I didn't answer just saw their caller ID- so if they are in Chicago that's 10:15 pm - LOSERS!
Unfortunately, The DNC registry is practically worthless, because the law is so full of loopholes and virtually unenforced. But charities and politicians are exempt, so I suspect the CDC and any organization doing surveys for them (including U of Chicago) are also exempt.
