I have started pushing the button to answer calls with out of region area codes, then just laying the phone down. I did this and heard a female voice saying hello, hello. After 30 seconds I hung up.

I work for this company currently. No, Maren is not my real name. I don't know what our policy is on posting stuff like this, so I'll remain anonymous. Maybe I can help.1.) Yes we are a valid Market Research company. We just do surveys. We are NOT telemarketers. We have no intention of selling you anything. The National Do Not Call list is for telemarketers and will not affect market research calls. - If you want us to stop calling, simply say "Please remove me from your list." I'll gladly opt you out of a survey if you're not interested. If you just say "I don't have time," or something similar, I have to make a second attempt and ask you for a better time to call. If you just hang up, I have to hit "quit" and the computer will just dial you at a later date.Our surveys (at least currently) center around utility companies and consumer products. Heads up, the consumer products survey is actually about cigarettes and snuff/dip. Some of the surveys do pay, if you let us read our intro we flat out tell you which ones pay. FYI, most, as far as I know, do not.2.) It is illegal for telemarketers and market research people to call after 9, however sometimes we have you listed in the wrong time zone. If you moved to another time zone and still have the same number there you go. We're also LIVING, BREATHING, FEELING HUMAN BEINGS who sometimes don't notice the time has changed. There is no clock on our computer and the several clocks on the walls are all at different times. No idea what the deal with that is. We sometimes stay till 10:30 pm calling other time zones.3.) Everything is done on computer. I have no idea who I'm calling until a name and other info pops up on screen and starts dialing. -We're not supposed to leave a message as we are an outbound call center. You can't call us, there's no way for us to answer. This is why we ask for a better time. Also the person we specifically ask for has to ask to be removed. (Or you can just lie and say we have the wrong number, not like we'd know the difference.)4.) How we get your info - "you may have filled out a survey for a free coupon or offer, in store, online or at an event" (or whatever we have to read of a sheet of paper to you.) - Bear in mind, I have NO idea who inputs this info or how we get it. I've seen add-dates from 1991. So, if you went to your state fair back in ye olde 1995 and filled out a survey for a free pack of smokes, we now have your info. Why we keep info this old, I have no idea.Hope this helped.

We are not scammers. They could have simply had the wrong number or old info. It happens. We are not overseas. All you had to do is say something like "We don't use Duke Energy, remove me from your call list."
