But how would they find my number how are they able to contact me when my number wasn't put on the application I never filled out an account with Home Depot I never actually go to Home Depot so if someone opened up a account in my name then how is it that my number is called? my number is not listed I have a cell phone. I understand that someone could have got a hold to an ID of mine and did what they did but how can they call my phone when I'm not the one that did it so my number is not the number on the application
saying they wanted to talk to me about credit fraud concerning my Citi card. Then directed me to call them back at 800-595-8172 ready with my account number. When you search that 800 number, it's a cell phone registered in India. Nice try. I'd say this is a scam.
I got 3 calls from this number in a 5 minute time span, all claiming to be CitiBank and calling that my account had been compromised. I did not give them any information but called the number on the back of my card. They verified that the calls were legitimate and I was being issued a new card. HOWEVER, it certainly looks like this number is being spoofed by thieves as well. You are always better off to call the number on the back of your card rather than giving out information to someone who calls you on the phone.
I called Citi directly after receiving a call from this number. Citi looked up my account information and stated there were no applications pending with my SSN. I gave them the phone number I received a call from, and the very nice gentleman from Citibank informed me that this is a fraudulent call where they are phishing for you mr information. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. If you have questions regarding a credit card. Call the company directly. I worked in a bank for many years and learned through my customers all the mistakes I would never want to make. BE SAFE!
They also directed me to call a second number in the message that was left. While it seems this may be legitimate. Always call your bank yourself not the number left on your voicemail. If they initiate the conversation they should not ask for your private information...this should only be required if you initiate the call.
Received a call from this number 12/28/2014. It is Citibank. They did leave a message regarding a credit application I made to Office Depot. I had submitted an application earlier in the day. The caller also stated the confirmation number I had received when I submitted the application. Looks legit based on the info they confirmed in their message.
FYI I got a call from them today calling to ask or verify if I had requested to open an account. I've had several ID theft issues lately and this is one if many where someone has tried opening an account from a company in my name so I am grateful for the call.
