Called twice in a row yesterday afternoon. I don't answer "Out of Area" calls (among others)--I Google the number first and then call back if it seems legit. Obviously not legit. Into my CPR Callblocker it goes.
The number is, in fact, a calling "service" in Chattanooga, TN. It's been around for a while, has a BUNCH of phone numbers, mostly sequential, AND a bunch of formal complaints filed against them. The latest problem is calls with a (011) prefix added before the area code. This is a code used by telemarketers, scammers and outright hackers, mostly foreign, to access phone numbers in the general area of the U.S. and Canada. You can just block all (011) calls from your phone, but calls from the (423) area will still get through. If you have no legit contacts in that area, you can block (423) as well. Depends on how annoying the calls get - many phone companies charge a fee to put blocks on your phone service. If they're really annoying, you CAN file formal complaints with the FTC - contact your local phone company re: how to do this.
I called it back. It was an IRS scam. I laughed at her when she told me that the police would be at my door in 45 minutes If I did not comply.
Called but was our. Never left a message. So it was not important. Checked the number and foind 9 pages of comments on this site. Another number to block.
Called tonight, we don't answer unknown calls. There was a hesitation, then a woman said hello, then hung up after a few seconds.
Have gotten calls from this number twice now, one at 8:47 pm and one at 8:11 pm. I go to bed early so these phone calls are not appreciated. I wish they would stop calling and leave me alone. If they aren't going to leave a message on the answering machine then it can't be all that important.

Received a text from this number today about their colon kit. As always with these types of texts, I block the number without responding and report it ass spam.
