Major telcos are not "working with" fake PC techs in South Asia. It's a trival matter for these frauds to spoof a non-functional number or to set a VOIP line to not accept inbound calls. The same manipulation incidentally makes finding and prosecuting these slugs fairly difficult.

To get them to stop calling: Keep them on the phone as long as possible. Tell them you are logging into their site. Keep telling them your computer is running slow. Tell them your not sure what you're doing wrong and ask for a different web site. After messing with them for a good 5 or 10 minutes, start laughing a tell them you know it's a scam (I used wording from the movie Independence Day). Their whole scam is set up to reach as many people as possible that may buy into it. They are not going to keep wasting their time to call back if they know you are going to waste their time!

I should think your CRTC already prohibits this scam, but laws alone are not going to control what is partly a social problem of fraud and partly due to low technological barriers.

Same computer scam.

Although I told this asian accented S.O.B. that I am on the Federal no call list he continues to call me. He alleges that there is some type of malware or virus on my computer and that I should start my computer. He claims that Windows has a problem and if I do not start my computer, some unknown subject will steal thousands of dollars from my accounts. This time the caller ID showed "Washington 425-668-9652.

Indian Gentleman calling from Microsoft. At least 3 calls from this number over the last 6 months.I play stupid and ask question after question and say, "Sure, I can boot up my computer, will take a while." I keep them hanging for as long as possible, then say, "Opps, that's correct...I keep forgetting,I have an Apple." Click. I have to entertain myself. :-)

Phone rings. I don't pick up because I can't identify the caller. No message. Nothing. Scammers.

A call came from 425-668-9652 . The man sounded like he was from India. He said he wanted to talk to me about my computer. I said my computer is working fine. Then in a loud clear voice he makes a horrible, sexual, disgusting comment to me. I hung up...very angry & shocked. I called the number back and it said it was a non working number. STOP THESE CALLS!

Got a call at 4:30AM that woke me up. Man with Indian accent wanted to continue speaking, but I hung up. Call was repeated at 6:30AM - again I hung up. I've had several calls from this no before 7AM.

Got a call today at work from this number saying my computer was sending out a large amount of unwanted data and they can help me with this. I told them I was sitting in front of a "switchboard". The man on the phone had no idea what I was saying and I told him again I am a switchboard operator. He put on another tech and I went through the whole thing again and I was told by this other guy that I am "to damn smart for this" and he hung up.
