Many thanks to the others who have posted these messages. I just got a message from this number and it seemed so legitimate. Thanks to all of you, I won't call, but I will go to the soc sec office in person because I want to know how this caller knew what was going on with my social security. Could it be a dishonest employee giving out information? A few years ago I fell for one of those scam calls--I felt like such an idiot-- and have been much more careful since. Now I wonder if those scammers have been tracking my record.
I just received a call from 510-970-1100 and looked it up here. The message they left said to return the call to 510-970-2818, which I did. They did not ask for any personal information. I simply identified myself by my last name and as returning the call. The woman who answered the phone was actually processing my Social Security application and asked an appropriate question which only someone actually in their office would know or want to know the answer to. I had requested payment to begin on a particular date. She knew my birthdate and informed me I was entitled to it beginning the month OF my birthday, so I could begin collecting it a month earlier than requested. I had actually spoken to this woman previously in processing my Social Security request and everything she had previously said she would send has appeared in the mail as stated. So, this 970-1100 number and the 970-2818 number are from Social Security.
They called, supposedly from SSA, want number, mothers maiden name , all that stuff they are not going to get, left a 'Private' call back number of 510-970-2851, I checked and there have been no reports on this number yet.Ron, from Social Security and Medicare, I called back and it is a "Non working number".
She said she is from social security I also called it the voicemail said number didn't work so I text it and it went through. The service replied thank you for using landmine. So someone with technology can figure this out.
My wife applied at Social Security yesterday. Today she had missed call from 510-970-1100 when she called back a few minutes later she got a recording saying "it was not a working number" How strange is that?
I received this message from someone named Kelly who says works for the SSA asking for my mother & t father. As far as I can tell, this is a number from somewhere in California. About a month ago I been getting calls from scammers, so this call puts me on alert. Freaking thieves, they have no respect whatsoever. If it was a legitimate SSA concern, why not direct me to the local SSA office.
Got the call from (510) 970-1100, which you cannot call back. Lady said she was from Social Security (SS) and gave me a 877 number to call back on and also gave me her direct line. I did my research, called the main SS number at 1-800-772-1213, three times, and to make a long story short, the number was in fact from a branch office of Social Security Western processing Center, located in Richmond CA, calling to help me process a claim. In fact the claim was processed very fast after I spoke with the lady. By the way she also encouraged me to call the SS main number and completely understood my concerns. On my third call to SS I talked with a supervisor who was very helpful and was able to verify all the information, numbers, names etc., and addressed my concerns, which me feel very good. Bottom line as of now on July 2013, I can said that (510) 970-1100 is the Social Security Admin calling
So, what; I'm suppose to give my name now, so they have more information? She said that she would call back tomorrow. How or what do I ask her? to know if it's really a SSI...?
