ITS OK PEOPLE!! Hi everyone. Just thought I would ease your concerns. This is a real number from the social security office. I received a call from this number and did not answer because unreconized numbers are usually people trying to get me to answer some dumb survey questions after I bought a new car. The other numbers never leave a voicemail, but this number did. It was my girlfriend! She works at the SS office and was calling from a general use phone to tell me she forgot her cell phone at home and not to worry if I didnt hear from her all day. So I know 100% it is a phone in the social security office. You should have already figured this out since another person posted they called the SS office first and talked to someone and then the SAME PERSON called them back from this number. How could a scammer have pulled that off?? Just thought I would let the people that gave out personal info know- its ok this time because it was legit. BUT DONT DO THAT AGAIN UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE ITS OKAY!!! Might not be so lucky next time!
I received a phone call which went into my voice mail. The female caller from this same number as listed, 510-970-1100 left a message stating I needed to call my local social security office regarding a payment. Since this is LABOR DAY WEEKEND, and a SATURDAY, that tipped me off that this was a scam. No one from a Federal Office works on Labor Day weekend. I suspect that this woman/or people are fishing for account information. The number came up on my caller ID as from Richmond, California. It was logged in on my phone at 10:40 AM, my time, which would make it 0840 AM their time...IF it truly is from California. MY suspicion is that this woman is using a phone proxy server, which can bounce a phone signal from all sorts of places in the world, but "appear" as if it is from somewhere in the USA to make people think it's legitimate.Luckily I didn't speak to her, and I have forwarded all information to the fraud division of the Social Security Administration for further follow up. If she calls again, I'll have my tape recorder handy....I think my first question to her will be, "Why don't you get a real job, THEIF!"
They said they were from social security fishing for info.We were told to report them to the Attorney General's Office as someone within the system is stealing.
This a real scam. You can not get a answer when calling this number. The caller id shows ssa.
This number appeared on my cell phone. I did not answer and no message was left. It was received at 5:36 pm, EST.
Was told i owed for an over payment mailed a money order in the returned envelope and got a call 3 weeks later from this number, a woman left a message named yolanda saying my payment was never received. Starting to think this a scam when you call the toll free number 1800-227-8835 it directs your call and then hangs up on you???????
I answered after I heard a message being left. The woman was legit from SS responding to my online application. She gave me info that no one else could have known and asked me for no info, except to tell me she'd be sending me info via the USPS to sign. Then she called back saying she had found all the info she needed and would activate my SS asap. Very efficient!
Got a message from this number. I was nervous after reading the comments on this website. Lady said she was calling from Social Security. I called back the number she gave 510-970-2553 and it seems to be legit. My husband recently applied for Social Security. She had a question for him but he wasn't home at the time. I'll have him call back and we'll see what happens.
