The Social Security Agent returned my prior call with information i needed. Very helpful.
asked about a letter isent to ssa, needed to confirm ss number and I did. shcin i shouldnt have done
Caller was asking for SSN verification
Need some information so it (work income I suppose) doesn't affect your S.S.
I had first called the Social Security toll-free line to apply for Medicare and after a couple of switches was forwarded to the person who took my application, which involved discussion of a number of personal details regarding Social Security. She asked for a number to call if we got disconnected and I gave her my number. She then called the number about 10 minutes after our discussion, to recheck a detail we had discussed, and my phone registered the 510-970-1100 number. The toll-free number she gave me in case I wanted to call and update any of the information we discussed was 1-877-777-3794. I guess anyone with a question could call the toll-free number for Social Security, or their local Social Security office and ask about their application and whether any more information was needed.I got a call from this number from the person who handled my Medicare application, who may be an employee of a Federal contractor to Social Security. I got that impression from a few details of our conversation. She seemed to have a telephone script she was required to follow and, by her comments, she seemed not to be a government employee. Given the way I reached her (by first calling a government, that is, Social Security, phone number posted on the Social Security website), the return call seemed legitimate.
