I have been receiving calls from this number. If I do not recognize the number, I do not answer. They leave no message. This time, though, I decided to answer. It turns out they are a collection agency for the Los Angeles County Bar Association. I am a member of LACBA, and they were claiming that I am delinquent in my membership dues. I am not. I paid them last January for the entire 2012 calendar year. Oh my, they said, they would update their records. I have written to the Membership Department of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, enclosing a copy of my canceled check, showing that have paid the 2012 membership dues, and requesting confirmation of my status as a member in good standing.
I received a phone call from this number last night (Sunday) at 7:04 pm. The woman asked for my boyfriend (his first and last name). My boyfriend is not listed on my cell phone as a contact. I asked who she was and what this was regarding. She stated that she worked for the Humane Society and needed to talk with my boyfriend. The way she was talking to me was pretty rude so I asked again why she needed to talk to him. The woman said that my boyfriend had donated money in previous years to the Humane Society and she was calling back to see if he wanted to donate more money. I told my boyfriend about this and he said he has never donated to the Humane Society before so I hung up on her.
I receive one or two call every day and it has been going on for about a year. The caller ID indicates they are calling from Oregon. There is never a message. I never answer calls from numbers I do not recognize but they just keep on calling. This has been going on for about five months.
Got another call from this number and finally someone on the other end spoke up. Apparently, the American Chemical Society contracted this company to update it's subscriber information for one of their publications. Contrary to my suspicion, the calls, though annoying, were legitimate. Once they finally get a hold of you, they should stop calling. Other posts suggest how to remove yourself from their calling list. Good luck!
I've been receiving calls from these people everyday for at least two weeks. I never answer and they never leave a message. I finally called the number back, got their voicemail and it says they're some sort of marketing group. The voicemail also says they will keep calling you, unless you leave your number with them, in which case they'll stop. I did this, so hopefully it means the end of these annoying calls.
Thank you all. I looked through several posts -- I always do, in these "unidentified repeat telephone calls" cases -- you need to see what several different people have taken the time to write. Some people are very helpful. Sometimes, you get a few clues that confirm your educated guess.
