This is a new scam, where they now spoof the nomorobo telephone number that you use to report a call. Scumbags! They tried to leave a message but it was so garbled with so much background (boiler-room) noise that it was completely unintelligible.
That's just it. These people are so stupid that they don't realize that no one in their right mind is going to do business with anyone who ceaselessly annoys them day and night. What are they smoking? I'm far more likely to respond to junk mail than junk calls. At least then I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going through the week's mail and am looking some things over in a better frame of mind. If someone calls on the phone, they are almost always interrupting something else I'm doing, and if I have no need to talk with them, it's an annoyance.
Rang. I answered. Woman asked if this is number to receive legal documents for a Dorothy Miller. I said I don't know anyone by that name. Then rude hang up. I suspect this number is used/spoofed by multiple scammers.
Today. . . It's a computer-scam.These Scammers are using a variety of Scams from this number. You will never get any legit calls from this number, Never answer or talk with them.
You get a call from this NOMOROBO number because the original telephone caller was human and bypassed the block by entering a number that the robot asked to enter (in order to determine if it's a Robo Call.) You will need to block the number preceding 608-371-6666 through your telephone company, call blocker machine or software.
This number is from NoMoRobo... if you check their website FAQs, you'll see why this happens. Partial quote: "To ensure that we don't block important calls made by humans, when a suspected robocaller calls you, we answer the call and play a message to them. If the caller successfully enters the random number (technically called a CAPTCHA), we send the call back to you but we change the Caller id to 608-371-6666 (NOMO). If we didn't do this, the call would get caught in an endless loop. We've heard reports that sometimes the Caller ID Name says MAINE MED CTR. This is incorrect and we're working with our carrier to fix this."The business that caused this to happen might be spam/scam -- NoMo can't do much about that because it was an actual person that had to enter the passcode to get past the block and get your phone to ring through.
This number DOES belong to Nomorobo, which I confirmed in a recent email exchange with Stephan A. at Nomorobo (support@Nomorobo.zendesk.com). If your Nomorobo service detects a possible robo call, it plays a recording to the caller asking them to press "1" (or some digit) if they are not a robot caller, which then puts them through to your phone line with the caller ID "Janesville WI / 1-608-371-6666". I confirmed this recently with my insurance agent who called me from their "800" number, which I recognized. However as I began to answer the phone, I noticed that the caller ID had changed to this "608-371-6666" number. So I asked my agent why she was calling me from Wisconsin and she said she wasn't, but then explained the Nomorobo recording she heard before getting put through to my number.I imagine it is possible that someone could spoof this Nomorobo number, but I doubt it. I could not find this number anywhere on the Nomorobo website or anywhere else on the net, hence I doubt any scammer/spoofer knows about it. I was only able to confirm this was Nomorobo via an email to Nomorobo support. Since Nomorobo only prevents robo calls, it is more likely that we get these calls from "live" scammers who hear the recording and then get themselves put through to our phone lines.Hope this helps.
