exactly! They try to collect a debt you do not owe!! They should not be able to do this!! Grrrr
Portfolio Recovery this is a zombie collection company. They specialize in buying resolved debt and getting you to pay them using scare tactics etc. DO NOT IDENTIFY yourself. They are trying to collect a debt from me that I filed bankruptcy on 18 years ago! My credit cleared 11 years ago from said bankruptcy. They should not be allowed to do this!! All it is - is a scam. If you identify yourself they will pop the fake debt right back onto your credit report. Previously they attempted to collect on a credit card I never used and closed 24 years ago. They pay a penny for these old accounts and make thousands off people by inciting fear! They have many lawsuits pending. They also violate federal laws by robocalling after being asked to stop. If you ask them to stop and they continue to call you can sue them and can be awarded up to $1000 per robocall after you asked them to stop!!
If you claim to be the new debt owner, why can't you provide any info to me? Why do I have to give you my rundown??? I need more proof then you just saying you bought my old debt and now I need to pay you!
The best advice I can give is to never engage in a conversation with anyone who robo-dials you about anything! Why bring to surface something that is 10-20 years old that has been written off ?Either don't answer these hustlers, or demand that they send you documentation to your local post office addressed to you at "General Delivery".Portfolio Recovery scoops up the oldest discarded debts out of the charge-off bin....and tries to pump new life into them, via robot calling, from 4,000 different phone numbers.Wonder why the mob never thought of this "business model" ?

they're trying to get personal and fin info under the pretense of finalizing a loan. they leave (866) 398-2896 as a callback number but actual caller id is spoofed to a different number each time.
