I like messing with these types of calls. I will turn the volume on the radio or tv really loud and then act like I can't hear. Or I'll say, "Sure, hold on a moment" and then wait a long time then come back and say tell them to wait a bit longer. Then get back on again and ask them to repeat everything they said and then tell them to hold on again...
that is because Portfolio has been sued so many times for violating the Fair Credit Practices Act that they do this now so they don't get busted for calling on old out of date debts. Was rumored that they are on the IRS list of collection agencies to collect back taxes. They are never going to collect because everyone know who they are and what they do.

Be careful! These aren't regular debt collectors. If you really have an unpaid debt they will sue you through your local magistrate after about 6 months of trying to collect (you'll get a notice of Pre-Legal action & if that goes unpaid you'll get a certified letter from the magistrate to appear in local court. If that goes unpaid, they'll get a warrant for your arrest). And the police will show up at your house. Take them seriously!
