701-509-8703 identified themselves as my local bank, saying due to fraud they needed to lock my card, press 1 and I would be connected to security. I pressed one so I could tell security they were calling the wrong person. The phone got disconnected. So now I guess after seeing these posts I'm gonna be in a lot of hot water.
Received a call on my cell phone from 701-509-8703 on Saturday/Feb 12 @ 12:05pm. Female recording stated that a lock was placed on my Washington Mutual credit card and to press "1" to unlock it or press "2" to disconnect. I pressed "0" to talk with an operator, at which time the recording repeated. I disconnected the call, Googled the number and voila ... it's apparently a scam. Oh yeah, Washington Mutual went out of business more than a year ago.
Never, ever, respond to calls or emails like these. Try to get a call back phone number (do not call it) and name, as much info as you can get out of them. Then hang up. Call your bank, insurance company, whomever they are claiming to be, directly from an official phone number, and verify if the call was valid through them - often it will be a scam. Some of these scams can charge your phone $1000's of dollars which you will then be liable for. Don't let yourself become a target. I've also noticed a lot of people complaining that they put their number on the Do Not Call List...scamers do not pay attention to this list! Also, in Canada the rules are a little different...the Do Not Call list does not apply to valid Survey companies, but you can ask each of them as they call you to put your number on their own do not call list/or take number off calling list which they must do.
Got a call on my work cell phone from this number. I answered and it was a recording that said my debit card account had been locked to press 1 to reactivate my card. My bank does NOT have my work cell phone number. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM...
I got an automated call from this number mentioning something about a credit card and got disconnected.
I just received a call from 201, it was an automated message saying my master card has been locked. said press 1 to unlock and then asked to enter my credit card number.......I do not have a Master Card......SCAM!!!
