Oh so you need a job, and you were called for an interview for a job for your family and you didn't go? That makes sense. Maybe you should be ashamed for not showing up and using a message board as a way to "research" a company. If you are still unemployed it's your fault. Maybe this Torchmark wasn't the right fit for you, but you didn't even check them out. They actually are a legit company, by the way and not a scam, so the jokes on you. Next time do some more well rounded research instead of this lazy googling a number. Times are tough, we get it, but so many people make really bad decisions because of other people's perceptions.
tl;dr MLM scam selling life insurance, of all things!Got a call while I was out, didn't leave a message. But the stories I'm reading in the 10 pages worth of dirt on these guys tell me enough. I've had experience with these kinds of MLM scams before: you post your resume on Monster or CareerBuilder, set it to public, and then these phone calls come. The gist of the scam is they get your name off a job search site, so they know you're looking for work. They tell you they want to interview you, but never what for. If you show up, you realize there's about 50 other people who got rooked into this cattle call, and you sit through a BS sales pitch where you try to sell crummy life insurance to old widows and lower-income families. They couch it in terms of "helping" people. The idea is you go into a lower-income neighborhood, door-to-door, and try and convince these folks that this insurance company can refinance whatever debt they have. To be fair, they probably are in fact able to refinance the debt because interest rates are essentially at 0%. Then, instead of shaking the client's hand and going on your way, you give them the hard sell of taking their newly-minted savings and spending it on worthless life insurance. As if the families couldn't use it instead on food, or utility bills, or school supplies for their kids. Stay away. Far away.
Yeah I'm trolling this message board right now, but Daryl, you are a little ridiculous. I got a call from them too last week. The person said "American Income" on the phone. I told them I wasn't interested because I am currently working, but I wasn't rude to them either. They are just doing their jobs. Anyways, American Income is a subsidiary of Torchmark Corporation. I never heard of either before, but I actually did some real research. Torchmark is traded on the NY Stock Exchange and they are located down in Waco, Texas. When you see Giglione-Ackerman pop up on caller ID, that is the state agency for American Income. They sell life insurance to mainly labor unions. So they are looking for numerous positions. Well really only looking for sales positions. Sales isn't for everyone and insurance sales is for even less people. They are not one of the biggest scams in America. That is worse than hyperbole. Clearly selling insurance to unions is a different beast than typical insurance sales, so they have to figure out who is the right fit. Most sales companies be it, insurance, or product troll the careerbuilders and monsters for resumes to find who may join their organizations. Some of these companies are scams. I can tell you that American Income is not. By the way anyone who puts their resume on these sites should expect to hear from sales jobs. You are an idiot if you think otherwise. Complaining about a legit company looking to give you an interview isn't the worst thing in the world. If you are without a job, you are an idiot not to see what they are talking about.
I received a call from these people and I now work for them. Yes they don't recruit the right way but that is because they understand that if they tell you they want you to become a life insurance agent then you will automatically say no. American Income Life has been in business for over 60 years and the reason you haven't heard of them is because they don't advertise. They work specifically with unions and there is no cold calling involved. The unions send out a letter to their members asking if they want discounted life insurance benefits, the member fills out a card and its shipped back to us at American Income. The number calling you is the Giglione Ackerman Agency. The agency itself is a branch of American Income which is owned by the Corporation Torchmark or TMK. I have been with the company for over two years and make well over $100,000. Yes they get resumes off of monster and career builder. Monster and career builder send resumes in to our office that match specific key words like management, team, motivated, etc. While we do have a lot of "sales" jobs I wouldn't call it that. I provide life insurance benefits to union members...I don't sell them benefits. Life insurance is a necessity just like health or car insurance. You aren't sold car insurance...you are provided with, if that makes sense. I am glad that I came in to the interview and found out for myself rather than listening to a bunch of people online. Also yes you have to get your life insurance license to be a life insurance agent, the state is paid this money not the company. The process for studying for the test is now all online and only costs $50 instead of $199. You also have to be fingerprinted and have a background check. I hope you guys give it a chance and actually come to the interview. You want a job then show up!
Received a call today saying they saw my resume and wanted me to come in on friday for an interview. Only stated they're a fortune 500 company. No other details as far as position, except they wanted people with my mgmt experience. They gave a contact phone of 732-225-6190, but no company name. From what Ive read, I'll pass.
I got a call from this company last week and was set up for an interview. I was hesitant to go because of all the bad stuff people wrote on the websites. However, after going to the interview I realized that this company is very professional and it seems that the people that can't cut it in this job environment just say bad things as a result. The pay structure is better than any I have ever seen in an insurance company so I don't get how it can receive such poor remarks. I recommended my friends that are unemployed to send in an application. I hope people don't let these negative comment dissuade you, go and find out for yourself.
Control your income? Really I've been working in sales for sometime now and you cannot control nothing when you are in sales. And If the company had nothing to hide they would explain up front on the phone when they ask you to come in for a interview. When I got asked to come in they would not explain anything over the phone people are looking for real jobs and should not be lied to before they even go for a interview.
I received a call this evening from 732-225-6190. The gentleman that called said he was from Eatontown, New Jersey which is over sixty miles from where I live. That in itself told me that this call was a scam. He told me he was looking to fill several different positions, specifically sales positions. I've never been involved in sales in my life!! He said he was in Human Resources and he got my resume off of Monster, and that his boss told him to call me. I was polite and said "no thank you, it's too far from my home" and left it at that. He politely said good-bye and hung up. My caller ID read "ggiglioneassoc". These people are obviously looking for sales people on the cheap. Don't waste your time with these people.
I continually receive calls from 732-225-6190 and have repeatedly and politely requested that they do not contact me in the future. Received another call from this number again yesterday. This time, I wasn't so polite. As of today, they are once again posting on Craigslist. SCAM. Beware!
