I received a phone call from this number stating they were from my prescription service, Precision Solutions. They had my name, number, address and my exact medication (a kind of unusual one) and wanted to know my birthdate. They said they needed to update my insurance information. I asked them what insurance company they had on file for me and they said UHC--which is NOT my insurance company. I then asked the guy's name (Kevin--probably NOT) and told him I was going to call Precision RX myself and would go through the correct channels to correct any information needed. I then called Precision and they had NOT called me and did indeed have all of my correct insurance information. They have put this # in their system as a fraudulent call and are looking into it further.
I am a case manager RN for UHC. When I call my home number, this is the number that appears, which is a computer system number through our home office in Mpls as all of our member outbound calls are through this computer and monitored. It is unfortunate that people are not getting the correct explanation from the nurses calling them - "Julie" was NOT following procedure. This is a service that is paid for by the company you are insured through. We call when you come home from the hospital to make sure you have everything you need, or if you have chronic conditions we may be able to assist with. Perhaps get you a home blood pressure cuff, or answer questions to help you work with your doctor. Unfortunately, we are required by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Federal regulations to verify partial birthday and street number so we know we are not talking about private health information to the wrong person. We aren't even allowed to talk to the spouse without express permission. The program is completely voluntary.Ask the caller for his/her number to call back. We will be glad to give it to you. You will get the United recording verifying who we are, informing you that the call may be monitored for training and quality, and asking for the person's extension you want to reach. People who participate really like the program.
I was really uncomfortable when I received the call out of the blue. The nurse asked questions that I thought she should already have. She asked me what surgery I had. She asked me what my diagnosis was. I told her that was all part of my medical record. She said she didn't HAVE my medical records so she needed to get that information from me. This may be a great program, but it's not administered very well. I don't care if they say the call is being monitored for quality. Anyone trying to get my records could say that, too. I refused to give out my private health information. The nurse was very annoyed with me, but I didn't feel comfortable giving my information out to a total stranger who called ME. I even told her I had no idea if she was who she said she. SHE called me, I didn't call her. She just gave a heavy sign and said "I just TOLD you who I am." This is not the way to go about this. Without all the identity theft going on, they should know better than to call a person out of the blue. Insurance companies have such a bad reputation and this kind of thing only makes it worse. Having just had surgery, I don't need to deal with an exasperated nurse who's irritated because I won't answer her unsolicited questions. You need to pass that along to your supervisors. Patients shouldn't have to deal with this kind of stress straight out of the hospital. Send me something in the mail first that says that "Nurse Judy will be calling you on April 3, 2010 to check on your status. Then at least I'll be expecting the call.
I recd the call, but became suspicious when the "nurse" wanted my health history. I figured UHC should have that. So I told her to write for any more info. I called UHC,though, figuring they could investigate (if warranted ) much better than I. Turns out, it could be legit-maybe. They have a pilot program where a nurse does call selected members. The day after I recd a bulletin from UHC advising of the pilot plan. It should have preceded any call. So, at this moment I'm not sure if legit or not, but in today's communication world, caution is the key word.
I've had this service for several years through my company insurance. The Registered Nurse calls me periodically to check on my diabetic progress (weight, blood sugar level, exercise). The same nurse calls each time and never asks for anything other than my efforts and results. She typically spends 25-30 minutes with me and gives me suggestions for diet, exercise, foot care, etc. She has also provided phone numbers for a 24x7 nurse line and directed me to websites for free foot examination supplies. I have not had any issue with this service. It's part of my insurance benefits.
I just received a call from this number on my cell phone (which I haven't had long and don't give out often). I have never had any dealings with United Health Care. When I called the number back, I got a recording saying, "Extension ... is not available at this time." After reading the above posts, I'm wondering how I am getting what appears to be a telemarketing call on my private cell phone. I'm on the no call list.
They call me all the time and the ladys always say their name is Judy - this company should be sued for harrassment. I have asked them numerous times to stop and a few days later another call comes in.
Got 2 calls to my cell last week but I didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number and it's not in my area code. Called back today after reading these other posts and it also goes to a message that says "extension xxxxx is not available at this time." and then hangs up. If you're worried it's a scam you can report it to your local law enforcement and to the FBI website.
This was a legit call from number 763-274-3899. This past week I changed my primary care physician and the person left a message pertaining to that. He said I should be getting my new insurance card so to please check to make sure my new primary physician is listed on it. Not sure if he was with UHC or what company.
