Capital One told me this is not one of their phone numbers. I now have several numbers that this recording has told me to call to reach Capital One.I received a call from 888-618-8906 and was directed to return the call to 800-215-1921, or 888-618-8898, or 888-601-3002
Said they were Capital One Fraud Department. Gave this #1-800-215-1921 ext.4542881 to have someone call back about another family members acct. Scammers are good--had alot of info. on family member--had me believeing fraud was being committed until i google searched the # left to call back and found this site & # being reported. People these days are absolutely horrible and need to get a real job and stop scamming others!
It is positively Capital one's phone number, not the fraud dept (800-427-9428) but the Recovery department. They are trying to recover a fraudulent transaction you reported on your credit card. If you didn't report fraud charges on a Capital one card . . maybe they are investigating something or you owe them money and they are trying to collect ;)
The identical things happened to me today. What were your results? I've since cancelled my card and re-issued a new one. Worried about fraud!

I didnt get a call from this number, but I did get a letter with my account number on the top that had this number listed as the Customer Fraud Protection Department. The reason I decided to check the number out, is because the letter looks like a low resolution black and white fax or copy. I guess further investigation will be required.

bit coin scam email gave this number.. ( fake paypal ) phishing and bank theft suspected.
Suspicious because name came up instead of number. Name read Fraud/Possible Fraud. Once blocked it showed number.
