They called. The phone's ID said "CardMember Services". I recognized that name from various other numbers that call me anywhere from once per day to several times per month. This time I didn't answer & blocked the caller's number (again, as they spoof so many other numbers).

I have started to play with the callers. Most of the time, the caller has an asian accent, so I believe they are not located in the United States. I tell them it sounds great. So, they usually refer me to a person higher up to set up the details. Another person comes on the phone, giving me their name (always an American-sounding name) and "employee number" or "badge number". They keep asking for my vitals (name, address, phone number) and give them fake information. Then they need my social security # (not just the last 4 digits). I refuse to give it to them. Then they ask for my credit card number. I either make up a number or tell them I don't have it with me. I do/say anything to keep them on the phone as long as possible--time is money for them and the longer they spend on the phone with a scammer, the less time they have to call another person. I finally tell them that I have been scamming them and that I know they are scammers and doing fraudulent business. The sweet, friendly voice usually goes away and I'm called a [***] and they hang up. Love it.

This is a PHISHING SCAM. They want your credit card number. They will simply hang up on you if start asking questions. If you have time, try playing along. When they ask for your SS number or info off your card, ask them to hold so you can get it. At that point, do not hang up. Instead just set the phone down and go about your day. They will often wait 5 minutes or more before hanging up themselves. The idea is to waste as much of their time as possible so they have less time to scam others. NO MATTER WHAT - DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CARD OR SS NUMBERS!
