I received a phone call from this # on 5/20/08. She said she needed a copy of my 2290 for several different years. No money owed. She did not sound IRS nor did she offer her ID # and say this is MRS at the beginning of her conversation. She sounded like she was from another country. I asked her to give me the Fed ID # for the form that she needed. She would not. My husband walked in, she said she would give him the Fed ID #....she did not. Asked us for out B-Days, we would not give them out. But she asked us if these were the correct dates. So she did have our B-Days. She also called back 2 other times to repeat the same conversation. She would put me on hold and them come back. We told her to send us a certified letter requesting document 2290. She seemed a bit concerned when I told her that I would speak to my CPA about this matter.
Got a call from an unknown caller ID. Message stated it was the IRS and I needed to return the call by Friday. I did, because I've had problems with the IRS in the past and wanted to make sure there was nothing more, and stupidly punched in my SSN, went through the whole English or Spanish, etc., rigamarole, and gave it to the woman who eventually answered the phone after waiting on hold for nearly an hour. I started to worry after hanging up and Googled the number. Fortunately, the number comes up as an actual contact number for the IRS (I don't think that even the best of cons can get irs.gov to list their phone number).
It was the IRS. They screwed up my account. That is the # for accounts owed and levys on money owed. After 47 minutes on hold, after over an hour on the phone, i got it straightened out.
Got a call at around 7:30 pm. She asked if I had time to discuss a tax issue, her name was Mrs. Thomasello from the "IRS". I told her we had guests and that I needed to return her call. She gave me this 800 number and a case reference number. Please call between 8 and 8. It all seemed legit so I called back the next day. After a few menues, the system wanted me to enter my SS#, not the case reference number. I didn't enter it, was put on hold for over 30 minutes and finally hung up. I asked the woman on the phone if I would receive something in the mail regarding this matter and she said it was on it's way. I never got anything and haven't heard from them again.
Same with me. Got a call around 5:30 requesting a call back before COB. Was on hold for approx 35 minutes. Turns out that it was the IRS, and I gave the case #. They were looking for the business that had my number previously. The attendant updated the database, and that was it.
