& BTW our taxes are all paid up as I paid them myself so this is not a collections issue.
Mr. or Mrs legitYou are a little too eager to protect thia situation. I wonder why. The fact is, that it is evrey Canadians legal right to request a registered letter stamped specifically by the government, which in turn can be traced back to the government which according to legislature has to be filed in a data base. My fellow Canadians DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR SIN. This is a horrible SCAM. there is no question in my mind that they will be caught and prosecuted accordingly. they have already left a trail, it's only a matter of time.P/S 1 count of fraud minimum of 2-5 however posing as a government agency a an astronomically longer amd stiffer sentence. they will be caughy and brought to justice
They called me 3 times in one day and said I owe 22000$ to gov as tax. They take all my information like date of B, add, sin #
Been getting call from this number also haven't answered I do all my tax business by the mail.
Victoria police issued a warning Friday after the number of reports of the “Canada Revenue scam” increased sharply. Here are some tips from the Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre about how to recognize the scam, and what you should do if you receive a call. What they sayIn the scam, someone claiming to work for the Canada Revenue Agency calls. If no one answers the phone, the caller might leave a message. The person says that a debt is owed to the agency, and threatens court charges, jail or deportation unless a payment is made immediately. The debt is fictitious. The number that appears in the caller ID may be falsified. What they wantThe caller will try to persuade the victim to pay over the phone using a credit card or to purchase a prepaid credit card and call back with the information. The dangerThese calls could result in identity and financial theft. What you should do• Hang up.• Do not take immediate action to pay the callers or give them any information. Verify that what you are being told is the truth.• Contact the CRA to confirm that you owe money, before providing any personal or banking information.• If you want to confirm the authenticity of a Canada Revenue Agency telephone number, call the CRA.The number for business-related calls is 1-800-959-5525. The number for individual concerns is 1-800-959-8281.• Report the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.If in doubt, ask yourself:• Is there a reason that the Canada Revenue Agency may be calling? • Do I have a tax balance outstanding?• Is the requester asking for information I would not include with my tax return?• Is the requester asking for information I know the CRA already has on file for me?• How did the requester get my email address or telephone number?• Am I confident I know who is asking for the information?Source: Canada Revenue Agency and Victoria Police Department.
They are the "soft" collection department of the GOC. No worries about them. They verified me and I had them verify what info they had on me. It is all good.
here's an update on this number. I just went through a whole afternoon of tracing it. The nutshell version is, canada revenue agency does not immediately recognize this number and have recommended NOT giving information to it but instead reporting this call to a valid revenue agency number. Here's the long of it. I kept recieving these calls. The first time I received it I answered and got ringing. Confused I hung up. Except that it persisted for the following weeks until today I got fed up with it. So my mom called from a different number and place and the lady on the phone said that it was because I had tax issues but that she (me) could call a different number. First of all, there was no way to indicate that it was me, so how would she know that this was the case? I was still suspicious. So I did as many of you suggested and called 1-800-OCanada. I explained the situation to her and she did research and said according to her records they were legit numbers but that I should call 1-800-959-8281 because it was a general CRA number and I could talk to an agent there. As I continued through the rigamarole, it was discovered that there were indeed NO problems with my account, that this number was not recognized in the system, but that the second number one was recognized as CRA and I should call it. So I called it and again, she saw no problems with my account and did not recognize the first number at all.So she is taking it to her supervisor and they are monitoring their calls for further information or complaints regarding the 1-800-931-1026 number. So please call CRA (1-800-959-8281) if you continue to get calls from this number because at this point they cannot validate this number! The CRA number I have given can be found on their website.
27/08/2015 - 5:49 p.m. Pacific time. Received call from a male claiming to be CRA collections and asked for my SIN. Told him if he is from CRA he should have my SIN. He gave me phone number 800-959-2250 to call. Called this number spoke with someone who insisted I would have to give my SIN. I said no and if you are from CRA you should have it. Was transferred to Marie who said that all she has is a blank screen and SIN'S are the only way for CRA to identify anyone. I refused and she ranted on that if I didn't give her my SIN then I would keep getting these calls. I told her then so be it and hung up.
I've been getting many strange calls from Wiggens Adjustments (a collections company located in Vancouver B.C.) regarding a parking lotticket. Is there there any conection with the 800-931-1029 number.
