I just got a call from the Vermont telemarketer/maybe telescammer. The company is Level 3 Communications in Bennington Vermont. If you live in Canada, go to Bell.ca and choose to chat with a live person for assistance (they ask for your name and phone number, but they don't need it for this purpose). Ask why they don't have any information on-line for consumers to register their telephone numbers in the Canadian Do Not Call Registry. Bell Canada has been chosen (by the CRTC in December 2007) as the provider of this service. But Bell is, perhaps, too busy trying to make money from providing services to the telemarketers in order for them to comply with the legislation when it comes into force later in 2008. Once again, Bell has forgotten where its bread is buttered: with the consumer. They deserve an earful. Please consider giving it to them.

call from 813-262-0249, garbled, something about "...filed against your social security number..."

I'm in Ontario - got a call from this number yesterday, did not pick up, they did not leave a message. Beware of offers for "free trips"!

Great idea. I received the very same call last week and when I told them I wasn't interested in talking to them because it was a scam they still insisted I should talk to them saying "you don't know what you're talking about". I told them in no uncertain terms that I most certainly knew when I was trying to be conned and they called me an idiot and I hung up on them.I think the best approach is to just let them keep talking....it's costing them money. I just read an article in the newspaper about this and not too long ago an elderly friend of mine was "taken" by these people. She was too embarrassed to tell anyone and ended up spending about $200.00 on her credit card.

I get calls for these scammers daily. The call from private numbers. Folks if u can't identify number don't pick reprot to ftc and put the number don't call registry if all else fails blow a tin whistlle in their ears it give it try its worth a shot
