Did you not hear the recent story of the doctor (I believe in the mid west) who was sentenced to 60 years in prison for telling people they had cancer and then subjecting them to chemotherapy just to collect money from Medicare? He reportedly racked up close to $20 million, and was only caught after one of his patients was seen by this guy's assistant because he was on vacation, and the assistant discovered the patient did not even have cancer. Further research by the assistant found that to be the case with most all of the doctor's cancer patients. So, getting a second opinion before chemotherapy is definitely the way to go.

I don't agree with your comment about hitting "talk then off" to stop scam calls. For quite some time I had reduced many of those unwanted calls, maybe down to only a couple a month, by turning off my answering machine and just not answering any unknown numbers, via caller ID.Hoping to stop the rest of the annoying calls, I tried your idea and am once again being swarmed with nuisance calls.So I figure the best way to lessen them is to watch your CID and just not answer any unknown calls.Or invest your time and money on a call blocker.

I take exception with your list of area code's to block. If I blocked 5 of your #'s I would not receive any calls from my friends Iand family! I recommend printing the NANP (North American Numbering Plan). It lists every area code in the country+

Have had two calls from this number but did not answer. However, it's annoying because I have to stop what I am doing to check the number as the voice annoucement of the name is not always clear.

I think "Long John" said in the beginning of his post that each person would have to make sure NOT to block any area codes that may be from family or friends. But your suggestion of the NANP is a good one. Thanks.

Keep getting calls that begin with the line about my having expressed interest in a back brace - which is a total lie. I keep hanging up, but they keep calling. I am tired of it.

OK smarty pants, do you really know what you just typed? nothing. None of that will stop the calls. You know what would stop the calls? An "opt in" law. In other words, no one could call you unless/until they had an opt-in form signed by you. All other calls, including, but not limited to, election, government (specific to agency), any and all polsters, and any and all charities. Anyone else caliling would get a $10,000 fine on second call, increasing on each and every call. Any and all callers would have SSN registered with any phone number they are using. Those fines to be added to their tax bill each and every year. Now then you would have a bill.All that nonsense that you just posted does NOT work. Does NOT help. Cannot be implemented w/o caluse undo burdens on victims. Unless/until you put the burden on the criminal, you cannot stop criminals. Oh, wait, maybe even that won't matter if you keep releasing them from jail....ugh....
