is software available that would check an incoming call against a preferred list of callers i have programmed into my phone, and, if the number is not on my list, dump it to voice mail BEFORE ringing my phone?

BUT: i don't even want my phone to ring if the caller is already blocked.the crooks are winning and there doesn't seem to be a thing we can do about it.

I just now received this same call about the back brace. Instructions said to press #2 if wanted to stop receiving a call. A human being answered. I told him I didn't request this call and I wanted my number removed from their list. His answer was "not my job, not my job". So since I pressed #2, let's see if I get another call.

Had the same thing - when I asked where they got my number from the phone went silent. I normally do not answer for unknown callers but I was expecting a call for a government agency. I'm also on the DNC list.

There was someone who was selling a machine that did that for $50.00, but the best I could tell it was also a scam.

Since most of these are VoIP calls, nobody is paying any phone company. Some in India has an Internet connection and can go bonkers on you.

Sounds like the same boiler room that originates "I'm [actually Rajiv] from Windows Tech Support."

Automated call saying it was a return call I requested concerning a product I had ordered. (I have't ordered anything) Push 1 to talk to a representative, push 2 if not interested in product. I pushed 2 and was told to wait for a representative. A male voice answered and I said "hello" the man said nothing. After the second time I said hello, he hung up. I tried to dial the number back putting a 1 in front of it and I got a recording saying we are unable to complete the number as dialed. Please check the number and dial again. If I could have called back I would have asked them to take my number off their list. Why can't someone or something be done about these calls???

1. Are you paying for the calls being forwarded?2. Don't you realize that most of the caller ID numbers are spoofed?

I really doubt that some scammer in Mumbai cares about any US opt in law.
