Decided to try online classes for college. I get called from one school then as soon as they hang up, another school calls, then they hang up, then another one. This number called TWICE just now. Left a voicemail, told me to call them back. Ever since I filled out that friggn form online Ive been woken up by calls, been called back to back by different numbers, and all that crap. I put that its best to call me at 5 PM... WHY DO THEY CALL ME AT 7 - 8 AM!!! This is ridiculous.... How do I get them to stop calling me?
Oh, dear. Yes, it's University Alliance on behalf of Thunderbird. I'm glad I didn't answer. I didn't recognize the number. Then, my Google search brought me here. I had just filled in an email form sent by Villanova University this morning. Got the call around 4:00 p.m. today.I know the economy is rocky, but this...?
This is University Alliance. I had a person leave a message about my online query. You ask for it and they try to follow through.
I have been looking to complete my degree. I looked at several schools and the only one I thought could afford, added a bunch of hidden fees above and beyond books. I was reading consumer reports and looked into Florida Tech. All of these on-line schools have a "hard sell" approach where they rush you into a financial commitment without letting you see the contracts up front.I wanted to view the application (which is a contract) and as much as I like the educational program their unhealthy concept of "don't worry abou the money" is exactly how people get into financial trouble. My job is dependendent on a good credit rating. If it drops, I am subject to investigation in the least and termination in the worst case scenario. They keep calling with "new offers" to waive the first class fees so start up costs are less than $100 which is well and good, but what about 5 weeks from now when the class ends. What happens when I get the bill and then realize I can't afford the cost of out pocket expenses above and beyond Federally backed loans. They keep calling and I keep telling them I want to see the application form in writing and havae full disclosure of all financial obligations I would be subject to. I don't understand why not one school will disclose this information.I guess they think without a college degree I am too stupid to read a contract in writing? Be careful, because registering for a single class can be construed as a contract and I have heard horror stories of people believing the "don't worry about the money" approach and sign up for the complimentary class or two, realizing financial aid isn't paying up all that was promised so they don't pursue additional classes. Then a few months later they get a bill for as much as $12,000 on classes they did not take because they entered into contract for that dollar amount. Sneaky wording they missed. The fact that you these people took the classes without getting it in writing they were being comped with no obligation, gave them no leg to stand on when fighting the bill and wound up with wage garnishments and financial disaster. When they telemarket this heavily, I see it as a warning sign.
I answered but as soon as they asked for me by my full name I figured it was telemarketing. The only people who call me are people who know me and would never call me by my full name.
I filled out the onlike form for Villanova University, since my company has a corporate account, so that I could get enrolled in some classes. This University Alliance place called back the next day and says they have no record of my company's corporate rates (there are hundreds of people in the company taking online classes at Villanova). How convenient. I just got with my HR people and called their corporate contact directly, like I should have done before I filled out the online form.
I wish I'd known what to expect from University Alliance *before* filling out Villanova's online form for more information. The elapsed time between me filling out the form and the phone call was about 90 minutes. I hope this isn't the first of many such calls I'll have to ignore. The more they press me the less I'm going to be interested in signing on, no matter how good 'Nova's reputation might be.
