Nice that they call you at work and your employer has to deal with this sh**. Skip tracing company...looking to recover old debt from failed accounts, so the less you say the better. Never answer any questions about yourself to ANYONE, phone, email or in person. Silence is golden. I asked not to have any contact at my work number. But, now they know I work here. Yes, we are all broke...all have debt, the economy didn't leave us much choice. Now we are just trying to get back on our feet...in the mean time we have to deal with this at work?!! While we are trying to make a dollar? Sorry...even I don't get a dollar at the end of the month. Keeping the lights on and food on the table and gas in the car is a luxury. Skip tracers and collection agencies are not your friends.
So what was the outcome of all of these call, did anyone show up at your house or have you recieved any kind of court papers from them. Just curious because I got this call also and not sure what it is about but reading this has really helped me out.
I have learned to NEVER answer any of the phone calls. When a number calls in I ignore. Then I check it online. Thank Goodness! I discover who it is and put that number into my contacts list under 'Don't Answer Ever' ! That way I know it is a number I've already identified! Thanks to everyone that has already identified this number.
Also used number 815-626-9300. I finally answered and said hello...they said hi and that they were from verifacts (not the company that sites use for processing cards, etc.) and that they wanted to verify the address...I asked why and she said if you verify the address then i can tell you...i said well...who are you looking to reach...they said the owner of (insert my company's name) and i said well you've reached a cellphone and i've never heard of that business...they asked if the business closed down and i said assuming so if they used this number and so she said okay and hung up...of course I called back to listen to the name of the company as well as talk around to some folks at the company using each option to see if i can catch anyone slipping up on what the company actually is...finally...i caught 1 slipping...they are a debt collection company...i guess they can try to search you now through business directories to try and find you at your job or your business so they can send you debt info and bug you all day...i can't stand these people that call for that instead of just saying they are calling for a debt and if you can make arrangements, etc...you'll never get me to be bothered calling like stalkers/scam artists
called my place of employment, said it was listed as my home number and asked for a better number to reach me. i gave them a fake number and she said she was going to call it to make sure it was a working number and i didnt have to answer. never got a call from them. what was the outcome of the calls for everyone else?
They called here at my husbands work, They wanted to verify he worked here fulltime and wanted to make sure we had the right person and asked for his last 4 numbers of his SSN. They had the same numbers. And that she said thank you and hung up?! I have no Idea what that was about.

They just called my office and tried to verify my employment.Since I happen to work in the human resources industry, I know this to be a fact:There are only two legal reasons to verify somebody's employment and that is if they areA) Applying for another jobB) Applying for a loan or some type of financial assistanceIn either case, the verifying entity MUST have written authorization from the person they are calling to verify information on.I have not applied for any jobs. I have not applied for any loans or financial assistance. I have not authorized this company to verify any information on me as this is the first time I have ever even heard of them. They are breaking the law on three fronts.Four, if you count the violations on the Fair Debt Collection act that Carmen Jacobs (the name of the individual that called my office today) just committed. My co-worker originally answered the phone and Carmen quoted her with my full social security number. First of all, I don't know how she got it...but it's illegal for her to just give that information out willy nilly. Then, as Carmen was making my co-worker (who also knew that Carmen was making an illegal request), my co-worker transferred the call to me.Carmen didn't know that she was speaking with the person she was illegally trying to get information on. When I asked her why she was trying to obtain this information, she said that she verifies information for financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies and that "Mr. (my name) has applied for a loan in a large sum of money that requires verification of financial information."Carmen told a bold faced lie. I have not applied for any loans, let alone a large one. At that point, I kindly advised Carmen that we do not provide employment verification over the phone and asked her not to call my office again.I promptly contacted Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office in Chicago, IL for this reason:Verifacts, Inc. is located at 204 1st Avenue in Sterling, IL with a zip code of 61081. They fall under this Attorney General's jurisdiction. The person that I spoke with there stated that Verifacts, Inc. is certainly in the wrong here and encouraged me to file a complaint with her office. And then...to both of our surprise...she looked the company up and found that there have been NO COMPLAINTS filed against these people!Listen up! If these people are contacting you, or contacting people to get information about you (ESPECIALLY EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION) they are BREAKING THE LAW AND VIOLATING YOUR RIGHTS!I have filed a complaint with the appropriate Attorney General's office. PLEASE do the same and let's help each other protect our rights and our privacy!Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office can be reached at (312) 814-3000
