It is legit. I was late with my Citi payment. It is Citi Bank. If you are getting calls and do not have a card with them, check Equifax or the credit agencies ASAP!!
This was certainly Citi and the rep sounded very official so of course, as requested, I just gave them my full social security number, date of birth, my ATM pin number and my bank wiring information. That was Friday and so far no problems at all. Wait, I just got an alert from my bank that my entire savings and checking accounts have been cleaned out! Now another alert from Experian that someone just took out both a home, auto and boat loan in my name! WTF, how could this possibly happen?!?! If only I had not been such a trusting dopey doughnut and give out all my personal details to some random person calling me. Oh well, lesson learned - guess I'll have to contact the real Citi Bank and explain the situation. I'm sure they'll be sure to quickly replace my money and fix that loan fraud fiasco.
So, this is legit, just as Andy said above. I didn't answer or call the number back, but after reading these recent comments, I started calling my first Citi card which is Shell. Turns out I missed my April payment. I just wish instead of saying "this is not a sales call" and to call them back, they would expressly say what the reason is and with which card (I have 4 with Citi). Then I would have known exactly the issue and who to call (from the back of the card) and I would have taken care of this days ago.
Yes, I got a call from this number and they actually left a message. I could barely hear the woman (she was quiet and it didn't seem like English was her first language). From what I could tell she was calling about a Citi card, but the message sounded very unprofessional-sounding. I believe those who say it is a scam.
Received repeated phone calls on cell phone and land line the past 30 days (at least 5-8 times a day). Filed a complaint today with the FCC (can do so on their website). Caller claims they are from Citi and it's urgent I return their call (do not have an account with CITI). I did so and got a robo-response wanting an account #. I tried to contact them to be removed from their call list. Couldn't reach a "live" person.
Answered call ONLY because phone showed call was from St. Louis area which is close to my parents. A lady asked if she was speaking with (said my first last name). I said yes and she hung up. Very rude and annoying.
This is definitely a spam call. I don't even have a Citi bank card or any other card connected to Citi.
These people have left messages on my cell phone every day for 2 weeks now. They keep identifying themselves as Citi Research. There is a Citi Research, but their website talks about using cookies to track online activity for potential investment clients. I'm not sure if it is the same company that is calling my cell phone. The website says it is global research. The people who are calling my cell phone all have foreign accents and the accents are not all coming from the same country. Sadly, my phone does not have a call block feature. I am reporting this phone number to the FTC, but they probably can't do anything about it.
