That's great you took the time to call Citi from the number on back of card. I bet they, like so many other CC companies and banks, are trying to use off-shore call centers. Looks like Citi probably found the cheapest and least effective service possible. And to that I say, ANYTIME you get a call from someone reminding you to pay your bill, or offering you some service enhancement, ask them if they are calling from the USA. They'll usually say YES, but they're referring to the company they're representing being a US company. Ask again if they are physically in the USA. Most likely they're not. At that point, ask to be transferred to an on-shore CSR (customer service rep). They must oblige (or I'd refuse to speak further with them. I mean, c'mon! Do you really want to give any sensitive info out to someone calling from a world beyond-beyond?). If we all do this -- refuse to speak to off-shore call centers -- what do you think might happen? ... Answer: they'd have to bring those jobs back to the USA. It can work. Spread the word.
This is a legitimate caller and really is from Citi -- they called me to let me know a payment was late (a bill had gotten lost in the mail). This is definitely *not* spam!
They've been calling for weeks. Do not have an account with citi, my dil answered and they asked for rhe person who pays the bills. Then left a message on my answering machine to call about our account.
As others pointed out - it's legitimate and from Citibank. I checked the accounts I hold with them, and indeed, the minimum due on one account had gone up slightly, so I had underpaid by a whopping $11.58. I immediately made the next payment due online, called the customer service number on the back of my card and was assured that the late fee that had been assessed ($25) would be removed and the account restored to good standing. The next day, I continue to receive calls from this number, but since it's Saturday, I assume that the calls will stop on Monday or Tuesday at the latest, since obviously the "collecting" arm does not seem to receive updates about your account in realtime, so they just continue zombie calling.
It's phishing. It's not your legit citicard. If these people call you to phish for your number, and you just happen to be late on your other, real citicard, that doesn't make these people legit. If they make enough calls, it will so happen that some of the people they call are late. Never give info over the over the phone to anyone. They just called here, claiming to be "Citi Client First." The person said she was calling about such and such a card and I was behind on part of my payment for July. Lie. Phish.
This number has called my home and cell number 14 times in 4 days. Every time I pick up there is a delay and then the call is disconnected. THIS IS HARASSMENT!I believe it is a Citibank backed Sunoco card that had the calls start when the payment was 5 days late. Payment has been mailed and the robo harassment continues. This may be the robo-caller to other Citibank backed accounts. They obviously don't want to spend money on live people calling about a 5 day late payment, otherwise the card holders would flip out, like I am.I will NEVER bank with Citibank. If they are the financing arm of any stores, such as Sunoco, I will immediately stop using that retail service. I have already cut my Sunoco card in half and I never buy gas at a Sunoco station again. These BANKSTERS have to be stopped.
