I received the same call and they tried to show me that because I had red icons in my event viewer application log that it was viruses causing them. Just he didn't know I'm a MCSE and knew he was full of it. Of course he escalated the call to his supervisor and they wanted me to go to www.support.me to resolve my virus problem that McAfee couldn't clean or detect. After I lied and said I didn't have an internet connection he put me on hold and the connection went dead. I guess he knew that he couldn't profit from the call.
Don't waist your time calling the police. They have satellites that can look down and see if I have a joint in my sock but they can't trace a damn phone number.
Person claiming to jnow family member advised of computer virus and wanting callee to provide personal information. Maybe identity theft? When callee said she did nt have computer they hung up.
I got this call a little while ago too... The guy was Indian sounding and I could hardly understand him. Call quality was poor but, he was stating that my Windows computer had a virus and that he was a "service provider" for Windows. He said that he would guide me through the steps to uninstall the virus and then have a Microsoft Certified technician on the line to verify it. When I asked who he was with, he again stated he was a service provider for all Windows machines. That's when I told him that I was a computer tech. and that this was weird because Windows doesn't have "service providers". I told him good bye, then I hung up. I then proceeded to try to find and report the number. My cell showed the number as 858-102-3252. I called the Attorney General's office for my state and they could not help because all I had was the phone number. I then called the Attorney General's office for California but, they were closed. I then tried calling the Indian guy's number back which told me it was disconnected (this is because he was masking it). Finally, I was able to make a report with the Federal Trade Commission (1-877-382-4357). Everyone that gets any kind of scam like this should make an effort to stop it so that it does not do harm to others. The FTC person told me that if I would have done the steps, it would most likely have been that it would download a virus (which I already knew since I am a computer tech. ;-) ) and then the person would want money to remove the virus (didn't know that's what they would want, just figured they would grab credit card numbers, bank accounts, etc.). Apparently they see this a lot since the FTC person knew exactly what I was talking about. I expected to have to explain more about computers. LOLI still don't know how they got my cell number though. After all, it is unlisted. I only wish I would have played along more (would have been fun)... next time I will so that I can gather all the info I can.
Indian gentleman tried to tell me my computer was full of viruses. As an IT professional I know that's not the case. Obvious scam, I told the gentleman so and hung up.For anyone receiving this call or one like it, nobody is calling to tell you about your computer unless you have asked or paid them to. Microsoft do not make calls like this. Just hang up.
Indian man claiming I have computer viruses. Didn't believe him and Hung up, he said good morning and its afternoon. Obviously an idiot.
Just got a call from this unknown number...man with a heavy Indian or Pakistanian accent kept trying to tell me he was calling me about my computer (ya right) - when I asked him who he was calling and spelled some unknown name to me I told him twice that there is no one here at this number and that he has a wrong number! After he hung up I tried calling this number twice and it rings a couple times, answers, then clicks off. I do hope the FBI or other government agencies are reading this post and are investigating this. Dispicable! Oh and btw we have an unlisted number and it is listed with the Do Not Call Registry...plus it was a recently issued number to my household.
