Same as others. Computer scam. I love reading all of the stories of people messing with these idiots. I have two concerns. 1. It seems these people think they are really convincing and appear to be offended when they are confronted. Are the callers stooges so desperate for money that they sell their souls? 2. This same scam has been going on for years, which means they are hoodwinking enough people to stay in business. Wish someone could come up with a way to run them out of business.
A cowpox curse on these Indian telescammers. May they be stricken with a itchy rear end that is incurable.
Was visiting with an old work mate. Our cell phones rang at the same time and they both showed this same number. Coincidence? Neither of us answered. Promptly blocked.
ID thieves and bill collectors buy and sell your information. Cheer up; it costs them money every time they give up and have to sell. Thieves want you to call them back in order to collect more information to sell to others if they can't con you. Don't ever give out or "confirm" ANY information over the telephone, including your name; it's the safest way to protect yourself. If you call them back, they have your number. If you identify yourself, they have your name, and so on. Do not push any buttons or leave messages. These are common tactics of thieves and bill collectors alike. Beware, these thieves ARE POSTING HERE (800notes) to confuse people. You can help your entire community by doing what I did. Contact your local TV station and tell them about this website, so that they can share it with their viewers. I have offered good advice here. I encourage everyone to copy it and re-post as you see fit.
This number calls daily, claiming that my computer is generating error messages. They claim to be licensed by MAC, Windows (and another I don't remember) they will not give a company name etc. They want remote access to computer to 'fix' your problem (for a fee of course). A search of this number will generate several sites where people have reported calls from them. This is great, but I'm not sure it is going very far to actually 'punish' the person/people behind this scam. I chose to contact MAC and Windows to report this number is posing as licensed techs for them. Hopefully companies as large as these will have some power to crush this call center, owner, people and anyone else aligned with this crap. It doesn't take too long to do. Mac has an easy 'chat' center to report the problem and WINDOWS has a 'scam report' link. I assumed if enough of us report the number that maybe they would go after them. They also can be reported to the State's Attorney General. (but I really think Windows and MAC would have more incentive to crush them)
Calle ID on my phone said China. Caller was obviously in a boiler room telephone center -- lots of background chatter. Said my computer was infected with a varius. Before he could continue his spiel, I hung up.
