Caller said he was from Microsoft and my computer was sending out a distress signal. I I edi steely j ew it was a scam and told him no it wasn't. He tried to argue. I hung up. I reported the call to the FTC although I'm sure the number on my caller ID was also fake. On a side note....I only own MACs. LOL!
Received a call on my cell with the location listed as China. Didn't answer. Currently laughing at these awesome responses that scared the scammers. Yes. Dragonfly. Yes. HAM.
Had heard a coworker talk about this kind of call, glad I looked it up while it was ringing in lieu of answering. Thanks for the head's up!
Got a call for a "FREE" security check up on my computer - i've already been scammed before by this - where they told me they were Microsoft - and needed to get into my computer to check "Error Messages that my computer was producing". After telling them SEVERAL times that i was already aware of this SCAM, they finally hung up,
Received call from 860-540-6999 - Bristol, CT, man with India accent. Man said he worked for Windows and they had detected that my computer had problems which need correction and to go to my computer where he'd walk me through steps to identify problem and provide software to fix it. I entertained him because I was bored and wanted to waste his time, as it was an obvious scam of some sort. I kept telling him I clicked what he request I click, and told him he should see my responses. Eventually when I tired of it all I started asking him weird questions to annoy him (like if he was missing any teeth, had he every been to Lotus, dose he like milkshakes) - he hung up on me. My computer has always works like a champ and I have never had any (fortunately) ID theft problems in my life.
I received a call and a female with an Indian accent said she was calling from PC Solutions in regards to my computer. I knew this had to be a scam. I have been doing IT work since back in the late 70's (before PC's came out) I simply told the woman I didn't have a computer and she hung up.
Same for me. Got the call today. Accent of man from India. You have problems with Windows on your PC, etc. I hung up on him. I no longer have any PCs running Windows in my home. So, yeah.
