Just received a call from the same number; it's AllState. They left me a 20-second, cutoff voicemail identifying who it was.
Call came into my phone, Caller ID said 866-723-8375 with its name of "Toll Free". When I answered it said it was Allstate. Briefly it mentioned something about insurance, asked if this was "another person" name. Automated and menu driven. It did not give much else. This of course is not the "other person" whom it mentioned. I called my phone company the other day re another insurance or warranty type of call, that one said Unknown Name and Unknown Number for caller ID and of course when I had selected 1 for a person, eventually when it answered the person hung up on me when I asked for Company Name and Business Phone Number. My telephone company said there is not much they can do. Phone company said many are doing "Caller ID Spoofing" which sends out wrong Caller ID info. My further net research indicates that some companies provide the software or the service for spoofing. Further research on net hints that a Bill or law (two items) may be in limbo that would stop or make CID Spoofing illegal. I also read a comment or two where users of that service say it is their right to spoof, eg if a business owner is on his cell phone he should be able to spoof his company number. I say NO, that Caller ID should always be accurate. Multiple outgoing lines can always be pointed to the Main Business Number by the phone company, thus legal and proper caller ID. The laws should be approved to make Caller ID spoofing illegal with extreme financial penalty and time in jail. Caller ID exists to help protect people and to aid in their security. It was always for the benefit of the Called Person and not the originator of the call.Lets get the laws approved to make Caller ID Spoofing illegal in all states and via federal law. I read too that spoofing "may" be associated with VOIP (internet) phone service and/or cell phone companies. Those providers need to take steps to show only the proper (real) phone number or be required to have accurate info and verification of an alternative number (and name) to be shown for Caller ID. Phone companies need to take steps ahead of any law to prevent incorrect Caller ID info. For this call from 866-723-8375, that could have been spoofed, and the verbal statement that it was Allstate could have been false or a fraud.Technically speaking, if caller id is inaccurate or a persons statement of being "another company" is false then it is technically fraud. I am on the National Do Not Call Registry and have been for over the minimum of 30 days (actually more than 60 days for me) thus they should not be calling my number to solicite. The law (for Do Not Call Registry) apparently is not being complied with and it makes one wonder if that law or registry is effective.
Moron...this is a reminder service from Allstate to pay your insurance bill. You are obviously retired, bored and are a conspiracy theorist. Get outside and exercise more...and stay off the internet.
I have been getting the call all day and I don't have Allstate and haven't ever had anything to do with Allstate. I've had my phone number for years as well.
Allstate wants to talk. I am not the policy holder. So I didn't press 1 as they instructed. Oh well. They will call back I am sure.
If you receive a call from this number it means you have made some sort of change on your policy or your policy is almost up for renewal. They do not call you from this number for payment / account issues, it is another 8xx number.
