I received 2 calls from this number today - one at 9:00 AM, and just a few minutes ago at 5:05 PM. I have Allstate - and I speak to my Agent directly whenever I need to...I'm going to venture a guess and say this is a telemarketing/sales call - supposedly from Allstate???I just talked to my Agent - he said he's unaware of Allstate cold calling customers. He advised to ignore the calls...
I so understand , I had a claim for Fire in my old garage. total loss with garage and tools and projects in the garage which I also had pics of. 21500.00 I had total replacement cost for all well they came out took there pics and payed the clean up crew to come ot 3 dump trucks full of stuff. then they told me i had only one toolbox and a lawnmower. not all the pics I had of stuff and they had . and to repair the garage so they sent me a check 3900.00 bucks to repair garage that all the contractors iI talked to said needed tore down cost to rebuild 17500.00 then I let all three contractors letters saying what needed to be done Allstate said no and then sent me a letter stating go had tare it down rebuild they would then reimburse me. I said to them if I had 17500.00 not mention all the money for loss of my tools I wouldn't have made a claim. So i had enough money to tear it down no garage yet and the replace for the tools would have been 7500.00 they gave me 800.00 bucks told me is i replace the rest in up to 7500.00 they would reimburse me. I laughed so what is the use having total replacement cost if I have to have 80% of total up front to get it back.
I have had two calls on my cell phone today and the voice leaving a one word message that sounds like breathing. I am on the do not call list.
I'm not sure this is Allstate - I have a good relationship with my Allstate agent, have had Allstate for at least 20 years. When I get calls from this number it asks if I am (name), press 1, if not press 2, etc. They have never said who they are. I'm irritated that they have my name - we are listed in the book, but under my husband's name only - anyway, I got fed up and decided I would just answer it finally, and when I did I got dead air followed by a disconnect. Now I'm worried about it, since they didn't even have the decency to talk to me so I could find out what they want.
We carry Allstate insurance (home and auto - for several years), stay current with our premiums, yet have also received calls from this number, none of which have displayed a meaningful CID (I don't recall the actual readout, but it was probably "Toll free caller," "Unknown," "Private," or something equally vague). I, as I suspect most others today, never answer a call from a number I do not recognize, nor a call that fails to display a meaningful CID . . . and I mean NEVER! Even if I might "think" the number is familiar (I walked into that a few times - never again), or if something within the CID system fails to deliver a meaningful CID (as can actually occur), any legitimate company, friend, etc. will either leave a message or call again (if it's an emergency, they should and can dial 911 . . . moreover, if it is truly important, the friend or company WILL try again).I have no idea if this is an Allstate number, but regardless of any positive (or negative) feelings I may hold for Allstate as a company, ANY legitimate company should ALWAYS provide a meaningful CID 'signature' with every call they place to anyone - be that to an existing or a potential client/customer/insured. Further, any legitimate company should NEVER fail to leave a message when their call is unanswered - even if only to identify who the call is from (although unwise to me in today's world, some do not have CID - either because it is unavailable or they are unwilling to pay for the service). In any case, what difference does it make what company/person is placing these calls? If legitimate, why would they feel the need to conceal their identity by blocking a meaningful CID? Again, to my way of thinking, doing so immediately places the call in the suspicious category - ergo I will not answer them. Think of it like this - how comfortable would you be in opening your front door (or even acknowledging that you heard the knock/door bell) if, when looking through a security viewer (i.e. "peephole"), all you could see is what appears to be someone wearing a full-face mask (and it's not Halloween)? Would you even feel compelled to acknowledge the knock/door bell, or would you simply be quiet until they leave - or reveal their actual identity? I felt much differently two or three decades ago, but in today's world of a constant barrage of scams and other threats it is this simple - DO NOT open or acknowledge the knock/door bell . . . the same mindset holds for incoming calls from unfamiliar numbers and/or meaningless CID's. After all, it IS the caller who has made a conscious decision to "enter" your home . . . and do so uninvited.
